Westminster expenses 12:44pm on 19 Jun 2009 William McCrea put a £1 donation to the Prince's Trust on expenses. He also bought newspapers on public money.

Little wonder he needs so many jobs if money's that tight.
"No woman need apply" 00:26am on 27 May 2009 Jim Allister, to be fair to him, is the most Euro-sceptic of all the candidates. He's always put forward the policy of leaving the EU as far as I know. He's one of the Better Off Out supporters anyway. As is Nigel Dodds so I can only presume so is Diane?

And since curious is talking about polls. What about the internal NIO one? Nich 80k, Dodds 100k, Allister 70k

You should ask them about one of Robbo's Special Advisors resigning so he could come back and run the election campaign - they're obviously not finding things quite as easy as they first thought!

Jim Allister is an incumbent and has, by your own earlier admission, has been successful in Europe. Diane Dodds does not. Therefore, she has to tell people:

a) why she's standing against the incumbents; and
b) what she would do so differently

If she can't even debate with the likes of Jimbo, and show people she has a place in the election race, then what on earth is she doing standing at all? It's all very easy for her to get on her fancy bus and talk to people on the street, but she has to show she's worthy of people's vote.

Jimbo wrote to her in March asking for a debate and she's still to even reply. If she's scared of being found out, and wants to avoid awkward questions then fair enough. But if it's this line of elevating others to her superior level, then that I'm afraid is supreme arrogance. That someone who has the guts to put themselves forward to the electorate isn't worthy of Diane wasting her time talking to is a real turn off for me. It's not for her to decide who's worthy to be in this election, it's for the voters. If Allister's this great debating machine, then I've far more respect for Nicholson for agreeing to step up to the mark and do it, than Diane for running away. Someone who can't even do such a basic thing in an election will not be getting my vote.

You talk about others playing into the hands of Sinn Fein by standing - but you fail to be concerned about the DUP holding hands with Sinn Fein in government! Nigel Dodds wants to be best friends with them during the day and Diane wants to smash them at night!! This Ian Knox cartoon pictures it perfectly:

At least Nigel went on Let's Talk a few months ago to debate Jimbo, so let's see Diane do the same. You say she will fight for every vote: then let's see her do it on our TV screens and fight for mine!

"The BBC used to stage two separate election debates, the battle for unionism and the battle for nationalism. This was largely because the DUP would not talk to Sinn Fein.

This year things are different: the party is happy for Dodds to debate with De Brun, but has refused to let her go up against Allister and Nicholson. Why should we elevate those two they are much smaller parties than us, argued a DUP source.

So now it all becomes clear: they won't debate Nicholson or Allister because to do so would be to lower herself to their level! I actually had quite warmed to Diane, and she seemed a sensible, moderate choice; but now her arrogance is obvious. I'll tell you one thing, a candidate who is too scared to debate the others in a proper, open format isn't a candidate worth voting for.
Debates and Complaints 11:41pm on 01 May 2009 Whilst hearing from the 'experts' was interesting last night on Hearts & Minds, it was no substitute for the real thing. Me thinks the DUP protest too much, however. If you were so wrong in your assertion about them running scared of Big Jim, then why won't they simply let Diane debate him, out in the open. Call their bluff Mark - get Diane, the three MEPs and Alban on Let's Talk this month, and let them answer the questions of the audience - not of any one particular interest group that they can pick or choose to attend. And no substitutes allowed: if you're going to stand as MEP, you can't pick and choose when or how you face the public. I want to see my three MEPs battle it out against each other over their records of the last 5 years, and I want to see what Alban and Diane can offer that's different. After all, it wasn't so long ago their parties had MEPs too.

I think in your opening sentence you mean the deteriorating relationship between the DUP and the SDLP.

It seems the relationship between the DUP and Sinn Fein has never been better.
