BBC iPlayer HD now on Virgin Media 8:07pm on 24 May 2009 All this technology is great, but for the vast majority of the UK we cannot receive it because Virgin Medias HD Short Sighted Department firmly refuses to connect any new homes to their network. Even if we offer to pay ALL the costs like offering £1000 they still won't budge.

Even though we can see the (working) VirginMedia cabinet round the corner from our house doesn't mean you can get it. We have tried extremely hard to get connected only to receive the repetitive droan of "it is not available in your street". The script readers at Virgin Media are not allowed to deviate from their computer screen scripts which makes it so much harder to deal with them.

Unless Virgin Media are willing to extend the network (I will willingly pay my own costs) this should NOT be hyped-up about so much.

Added insult to injury we live in an ADSL area of average 1 Meg. ONE measly meg. BT think this is high tech and "the future". I can actually get twice as fast downloads thru a 3G phone (compared to ADSL) but 3G has a paltry data allowance and its possible to use a 1 months data in 1 hour with iPlayer, youtube etc...

All of these companies: Cable, ADSL, 3G, have ALL got it totally wrong.

Somebody please tell them all to listen to the customers

Im glad they have got the message, or rather we arent getting the message anymore... lol

A good solution is BT/Virgin roll out EXTREMELY FAST Broadband, connected straight into a dedicated Internet Set Top DigiBoxes which have all the latest HDMI connections to your Flat Screen TV and cinemasound systems for maximum enjoyment.

Everything should be OnDemand via the TV available 24/7 where you pay a fixed fee subscription.

This eliminates the NEED for people to download anything at all because there should be a million tv shows online in Hi Quality or Hi Definition available at an instant...

Whoever makes this system will certainly win.

BT Vision have it right but....(1) hardly anyone can use it because the broadband speeds arent fast enough in society today (2) There isnt enough content, ie BT Vision is lacking approx 998,000 tv shows and movies on the servers.

This is like saying Royal Mail are personally liable for every item sent by post. No, never.

Like Knife manufacturers are held responsible for stabbings? No, never.

Like Breweries are responsible for drunk and disorderly violence and assaults? No, never.

People have a right, by law, in the UK to NOT have their connection intercepted or snooped upon by anyone (exception of genuine court orders etc) so based on this theory the ISP CANNOT do anything unless the law is changed so why are the music/movie biz demanding this?

Are they asking ISP's to behave illegally by snooping with no valid court order? It would seem so. This makes them nothing more than Hypocrites.

I know the music/movie industry are lobbying to have the law changed to allow snooping, but the music/movie business have made it clear they wont pay for the policing of infringing material online.

Ok, so one technological industry is expected to be responsible for protecting anothers interests? This is just so wrong.

Also, just how ridiculous does this sound?

I know. And they want to be taken seriously by us punters...

Lastly, I wonder WHY so many people download infringing material ?

From day one the internet was sold as 'free' and largely it remains that way today. Physical shopping items, yes people pay for, but virtual items are just seem valueless and it seems reality backs this up....
Taxpayer support for big companies 8:05pm on 16 Jan 2009 What I find DISGUSTING is that we, the taxpayers bail out these businesses... Then the greedy swines continue to rip us off more than ever.

Im talking credit cards whose rates havent dropped despite BaseRate being lowest in history

Bank Charges havent reduced: I had 98 pounds of charges slapped on this month for going ONLY 7 UKP overdrawn. Sickening.

Mortgage products with a 795- 2000 UKP fee JUST to keep paying your mortgage with the SAME lender.

Cannot now get a mortgage deal because the rules have changed to 25% equity in your house so only option is SVR. (usually a rip off as doesnt follow base fairly)

Banks Instanly reduce savings interest but take MONTHS to pass savings on to us.

Hmm all down to greedy banks.

I hope they go bankrupt and someone starts up a credit society that actually benefits both parties rather than pays bonuses the size of my entire mortgage each year to fatcats.

Its such a rubbish life for the honest.
Copyright - the empire strikes back 7:01pm on 24 Dec 2008 Don't you think its pitiful that all the big Music Biz's attempts at "Stamping out Piracy" only amounts to revealing the majority of users behind P2P are only children trying to fill their own Ipod christmas presents etc.

When Ipods are sold with tens of Gig capacity you would have to spend 30,000 UKP on legitimately filling up an Ipod...

Hmm I cant see children being given this much pocket money so its little wonder why P2P is so popular.

REAL Pirates do this for 'profit' not personal use and generally ruin sales by trading cheap inferior discs at computer fairs, car boot sales etc.

Children are not selling the music at car boot sales etc so why pursue this avenue so vigourously with legal action? It is amounting to nothing but embarassment for the Music and Movie Biz.

I have said time and time again on forums, the movie/music biz would be better adding £3-£5 a month on everyones internet connection fee so that multimedia content can start to be 'paid for'

Why is this such a no-no for everyone? It would open up to a bigger, better and maybe faster internet for all due to the funding?
Virgin: some 50 Meg questions 7:45pm on 15 Dec 2008 I live in a new street, every other street in this area has Virgin Media except ours.

Virgin Media is popular here because we are almost 5km from the BT exchange so depending on your line quality, you're deemed LUCKY to get 1Meg if not 512K.

What disappoints me is that we are only metres away from the Virgin Media green distribution box and I am battling with Virgin Media for 1year+ to get their services installed so we can jump from 1Meg to 10/20/50Meg but they are an extremely difficult bunch to deal with and absolutely nobody working there can help with a question like mine. Its like mission impossible for them to understand such a simplistic question.

I am very dismayed at them stating "they will not be digging up any more roads" that is extremely short sighted and a somewhat foolish business decision....

NOW is the best time to expand the network, there are tens of thousands of builders out of work so im SURE these builders would be DELIGHTED to work for Virgin Media deploying a network lifting/digging the pavements rather than be unemployed.

I just dont think Virgin Media are thinking properly. So many people want the services but cannot get connected.

Why dont they think about all the customers who are just slightly off the existing network...

I have offered to pay for my wiring and install in full, but they just aren't interested.

Waiting for BT to make a move to 'Fibre To The Home' is (lets face it) not going to happen for a decade, despite them trumpeting on about it being a 'reality'
