Soft landing 2:01pm on 01 Dec 2009 I think this reflects more than the success of her tenure in Education. The public spat with fellow Party members in COSLA over policy and a failure to engage on political issues at local level showed her to be a relative lightweight and thus expendable.

A pretty shrewd decision to bring up Mike Russell. He knows the job, is a heavy hitter and probably should have been there 2 1/2 years ago.

Trident debate reopens 3:04pm on 17 Mar 2009 Perfect timing - just when Russia anounces it is re-arming. Trident is useless whether its got 160 warheads or 160000 because it needs Americans to operate it so it isn't an independent deterrent.

Having said that, I always did believe the "yes Minister" sketch line that suggested it was there to deter the French - not the Russians.
Should the Bank of England buy shares? 10:28pm on 12 Mar 2009 Complete and utter madness that you would expect from the Tories. Why follow a useless plan when you can make things even worse by bailing out more institutions sitting on investment losses ?

This investment should be going into genuine infrastructure assets like renewables- not useless bits of paper that someone was daft enough to pay over the odds for.
