Nick Griffin on Question Time 09:05am on 23 Oct 2009 That was a complete stitch up! It seemed to be a let's-all-kick-Nick-Griffin-fest. All the panelists had been given cribs sheets of "facts" to castigate NG with. Even David Dimbleby dropped any pretense of being a neutral ringmaster chairing the debate and started reading accusations off a script.

Why weren't any BNP supporters allowed in the audience? I applied and was turned down. Normally the audience is "scientifically selected" to represent the full range of views; not last night!
Children in detention at Yarl's Wood 1:48pm on 27 Apr 2009 The asylum system is clearly cruel; it should not give false hope to these people. The fundamental rule of asylum-seeking is that refuge should be sought in the NEAREST safe country. There are no dangerous countries adjacent to the UK so all asylum-seekers are going to be rejected unless they somehow work the system.

It would be kinder (but wouldn't seem that way to bleeding-heart liberals) to deny all requests immediately and without recourse to appeal, and repatriate to the most recently visited safe country immediately on arrival. Very few would come to this country once they knew that was going to happen and much angst would be saved.
The writing on the wall 5:23pm on 23 Jan 2009 Just to add a "big" name: Warren Buffet predicted the turn with sublime timing. He gave thirty days warning of the start of the credit crunch.

Also, did you notice how in the Summer 07, a couple of months before the credit crunch, the two mega-banks: HSBC and Citigroup both sold and leased-back their headquarters buildings; pocketing billions in the process? They knew what was coming!

Even the Bank of England knew. Read the Wiki entry on Deputy Govenor David Clementi - he told the Treasury Select Committe it would all end in tears.
Deflation or inflation? 1:21pm on 17 Dec 2008 Deflation may not be as bad has everyone seems to think. Our expectations come from very different times, ie the 1930s, when it was a novel concept.

These days we're used to deflation. Everyone buying a PC or a TV knows that waiting a few months would get them the same for less; they buy anyway.

Plenty of expenditure can't be postponed anyway: taxes, food, housing.

I doubt deflation will completely freeze the economy like it did last time. So I consider "printing" money to avoid deflation deeply foolish. The only sensible response to too much debt is: repayment.
