Will EU flunk its big moment? 11:59am on 19 Nov 2009 Why everyone is so busy with the election of the Chairman of the European Council is still amazing me... It must be the incorrect usage of the word "President".

As long as even journalists who should know better are confusing their audience, the EU will remain something only (some) politicians understand.

The BNP and the white working class 3:18pm on 22 Oct 2009 The last couple of weeks I read a couple of articles on the Dutch politician Wilders and his Freedom Party. It seems that the movement of the British voters from Labour to BNP is reflected and (according to the opinion polls) magnified in The Netherlands.

Both the voters and the programmes of the BNP and the Freedom Party seem to mirror each other closely.

Instead of pleasing the Chinese, Russians and Americans by destroying the EU from the inside out, Britain, being one of the major member states, could also try to gain influence within that organization. The problem with opting out of as much things as possible is mainly a decrease in influence, which is basically shooting yourself in the foot.

The main problem with the Lisbon Treaty is that there are no new backgrounds to report: everything that could be written at the moment has been written, a million times over. Even the British license payer gets Tired of the Treaty.

The British license payer would expect the BBC to report important foreign issues like mass migration on a part of their website dedicated to foreign news.

Whether mass immigration is a greater or lesser problem than a Czech president making a show of signing the overhyped Lisbon Treaty is a matter of personal preference and taste.

Although I agree it's the western coast of the continent that is geographically in the wrong time zone, I rather enjoy the differences between Britain and the continent.

I prefer the British electric sockets over anything currently used in the continent (the IEC 60906-1 standard plug is probably even better, but only Brazil has adopted it).

I can imagine driving left is a costly business (making cars more expensive), in addition to causing accidents on both sides of the North Sea. Changing it would be a costly and dangerous operation, though... so let's keep this as well as it is.
