The Alex Salmond show 2:45pm on 24 Sep 2009 Pretty cowardly of the Minister to refuse to take part in the debate - I cannot recall a Minister of any Party, at either Parliament ever doing that before. How arrogant is the SNP these days to think taht their Ministers should not be held accountable?
Lib Dems pina colada blues 10:42am on 22 Sep 2009 The Liberal Democrats are the only Political Party who can look more divided at a Conference than before it.

Brian - can you recall the last time one of the main 3 UK Conferences descended into such confusion? I know that Scottish Conferences can occassionally go a bit bonkers (who could forget Labour's debacle in 2003 in Dundee), but is this a first for one of the so-called "Big 3" at UK level?

By the way - when did the SNP last have a bad Conference? It must have been a few years ago now?
Dunfermline blame game 2:57pm on 30 Jul 2009 The Liberal Democrats come out of this really badly - they had run around for days claiming that its all the government's fault and taht new bank boss was a hero. Turns out that Vince Cable was wrong (again) - why does the media always treat him like a financial guru, when clearly he gets it wronmg more than he gets it right.
Bird's-eye view of jail break 3:23pm on 28 May 2009 I had high hopes that Kenny would be a talented Minister and would get to grips with the brief. He is probably the biggest dispointment so far (Hyslop was always going to be out of her depth) and I wonder how much longer he can go on if he can't get a grip of the job.
On Budget 11:25am on 21 Apr 2009 Interestingly only the SNP and the trade unions are opposing these much trailed plans - the Tories and the lib Dems actually want bigger cuts in spending.

however, on a positive note, it is good to see Messers Murphy & Salmond working together to save the Dunfermline Building Society.

Just a shame that the Lib Dems are opposed to the Scottish Government giving support (see the Scotland on Sunday story).

Still, lets all be happy that the two Governments are working together.
Half and half 12:55pm on 17 Mar 2009 Whilst we wait for the moderators to let us see the first three posts, I will predict that the cyber Nats will quickly resort to hurling abuse about the apparent weaknesses of the Labour women MSPs.

The problem with this debate Brian is that it too quickly becomes personal & vitriolic.

It is an important discussion, and let me make just two points:
Firstly, the Scottish Parliament only looks significantly more representative than the cottish delegations to Westminster because of the artificial intervention by the labour party. None of the other parties has made big advances in the numbers of women MSPs (although SNP deserves credit for having the first ethnic minority MSP). The Lib dems have been particularly rubbish and advancing equality (ironically).

Secondly, there are many who would argue that it actually isn't important what the levels of gender or racial representation are in either parliament. This is a perfectly reasonable argument, it is just a bit unfortunate that it tends to be white men who seem the most vociferous in making this case.
Elementary arithmetic 4:46pm on 03 Mar 2009 In response to the queries about the Justice Secretary's comments this morning - he confirmed that the SNP Government was not going to hit the target at the end of the 4 years.

I simply asked the question (and I'll repeat it again); "Is breaking an election promise a big deal?"

I don't think its an unreasonable question to pose and it goes to the heart of the posts here.
