An update on Kaupthing. 01:17am on 11 Jul 2009 Well its 9 months now.
We are older and sadder.
We have been TOTALLY IGNORED by our government.
Now I know that my government is nothing more than a bunch of liars and thieves.
I see now that my MP and the rest of the immoral bunch were too busy ripping us his constituents off in expenses to give us the attention we merited meanwhile I who cost the UK government nothing and have paid a life time of taxes have nothing.
Thousands of letters later NO REPLY except from third rate PAs who send us out the same repetitive rubbish .

By the way Ms Macarthy Fry this means you. Yes you at the Ministry of Injustice cant you answer a straight question in the face of the hundreds of people who have written to you?

Where is your boss Mr Straw the man who came from the working people but who no longer listens to the working people.

Where is justice for the honest hard working citizen in this land?

Silence.

Our country is no longer a democracy but a place where justice is silent and non existent for honest British people who have tried to save for their old age and not be a burden on anyone.

An update on Kaupthing. 00:48am on 02 Feb 2009 I totally agree what the hell are they doing?
My conservative MP has stopped even acknowledging my mail my mail.
17 lousy dreadful desperate weeks have passed and all we have received is SILENCE and a Bunch of platitudes from the totally paralyzed Isle of Man government.
3RD is the Treasury Select Committee meeting at 9.45 am.
KSF depositors if you are in London go there its at Westminster and show our elected representatives some of the people they not only have deprived of their life savings but declared to be be fat cat tax dodgers.
How Mr brown and Mr Darling can you sleep at night?
I know we cant haven't slept for 17 long weary weeks .
An update on Kaupthing. 11:57am on 09 Jan 2009 How has it come to this that so many ordinary- yet not ordinary people have been reduced to these straits.

People who have striven and worked all their lives reduced to begging (literally)and pleading with a SILENT government for answers.

12 weeks have passed and no explanation has been given by HMG why British citizens have been ROBBED of their life savings.
How our banks were rescued 1:46pm on 04 Jan 2009 Saved?

Spare a thought for the 8000 british depositors who have lost their life savings in Kaupthing singer and Freidlander Isle of Man
( Formally customers of the Derbyshire Building Society who sold them down the river last year)
by the actions of Alistair Darling.

Ordinary people ruined.
Mostly people who are retired or nearing retirement
Their life savings gone in the most vulnerable
years of their life.

Not only have their savings gone but they have been treated with contempt and silence by HMG and labeled 'fat cat tax dodgers'

Wrong Mr Darling
Thats the bankers we are just the poor saps who were prudent worked hard and paid tax and saved all our lives, and made the mega mistake of putting it into a bank .

A twist in the expat tale. 2:24pm on 20 Dec 2008 To add insult to injury the IOM Government are rumoured to have offered depositors a 1k hardship payment to be given at some point in the unknown future. Naturally the depositors are going to be the last to hear if this true or will ever materialise.
Yet its Christmas and honest hardworking prudent people are being subjected to hardship worry and above all SILENCE for the sin of putting their savings in a bank.

Here is the latest press release on the Justice ( LOL) Committee

How can the UK Ministry of Justice look after the international interests of the IOM when doing so brings it into conflict with its sister Government Department the UK Treasury?
Worse still, how can the MoJ delegate the interests of the IOM to the UK Treasury when seemingly it has no intention to act on its behalf?

Lord Bach: ...whether it be the Treasury or the MOJ there has been no conflict between the two departments at all as to their role.

FALSE!
Was it in the best interests of the Isle of Man that £557m of assets from KSFIOM was allowed to sit in the UK, giving no advance warning when the authorities planned to introduce legislation that specifically led to these assets being frozen, the knock-on effect of which was the demise of KSFIOM?
If this had been reversed and the IOM government had introduced its own similar legislation that had frozen the assets of a UK bank on the island, penalising over 10,000 depositors and bringing desperation for many UK taxpayers, do you think the UK government would have let that situation persist?

Lord Bach: ….no time did our regulator advise or require these deposits to be made, the discussion did not extend to the giving of any assurances by the FSA …that the IOM branch would be treated preferentially, under our insolvency rules and law the IOM branch ranks like any other creditor of the bank…

The Ministry of Justice, the very UK Government department responsible for the justice and welfare of the UK tax payer and the safeguard of the Crown Dependencies appears totally unaware of the legislation introduced by the UK Government and sponsored by the UK Treasury that ensures an IOM bank does NOT rank like any other creditor of the bank since clause 27 states that no assets can be returned to a related party i.e. KSFIOM without the approval of The Treasury. No other creditor of KSFLondon is being treated in this way. What is the MoJ doing about this?

Lord Bach: …. Well that's I think a matter [representing IOM interests to the Icelandic Government] still under discussion as I understand it, but it is not an issue that the Ministry of Justice has taken a leading role in. As you know the Treasury has agreed to represent the interests of the IOM…and it will be the Treasury that will represent the Crown Dependencies interests as far as Iceland Government is concerned as to the money it receives from the IMF.

FALSE!
As yet despite it being TWO MONTHS since the bank's assets were frozen, NO-ONE has represented IOM interests to the Icelandic Government and it appears that the IMF loan has been approved by the UK Government with due regard to the interests of UK depositors in Landbanski but without considering the interests of UK depositors in KSFIOM.
The Ministry of Justice has delegated its responsibility to The Treasury who clearly is conflicted given its role in introducing the very legislation that led to the downfall of KSFIOM, not forgetting their ongoing authority inhibiting KSFIOM from becoming a normal creditor of KSFLondon.
How does the Ministry of Justice believe it is fulfilling its constitutional role given these circumstances?

Lord Bach: … Frankly the relationships that there is between the crown dependencies and her Majesty's government …it's so good to make us believe that all sides will act sensibly

How can the UK Government's actions regarding KSFIOM be regarded as sensible. This is clearly a one way relationship where any requests for sensible help from IOM are ignored and all instructions from UK Government must be obeyed.
When will the Ministry of Justice start fulfilling its constitutional responsibility in representing the Isle of Man in its discussions with Iceland and the IMF?
When will the UK Government admit that it has made a mistake and is harming the interests of thousands of UK depositors in order to gain a power advantage over a Crown Dependency (somewhere in the Irish Sea!!)?
When will this nightmare end for KSFIOM depositors?

You are killing us.
Its been 8 terrible weeks 8 weeks of knowing nothing 8 weeks of facing a future with nothing.
And the majority of people are not young but like ourselves nearing retirement or retired after a long working tax paying life.
We are facing hardship and penury when its too late to start again.

Our lives instead of moving quietly towards a secure old age the race run well or at least as well as possible find ourselves back at the begining but older and tireder.

Hope that you can sleep at night we dont

Have a good christmas we wont.

Unless you do the right thing we are not asking for anything but our own savings back.
A twist in the expat tale. 9:30pm on 05 Dec 2008 Quite frankly this is killing us.
The stress and anxiety that we have all been undergoing for the last terrible 8 weeks has already resulted in one attempted suicide .
All of us are sick with worry.
We have aged.
What is going to happen to us?
Why are we being treated like pariahs?
Why is no one speaking to us?

Yet where ever we turn people are being helped out.

People who took massive mortgages are given leeway British people who have saved aren't even given an answer.
A twist in the expat tale. 5:55pm on 04 Dec 2008 Gob smacked that at the creditors meeting on Monday KSFIOM creditors were not elected to the creditors committee despite being the second largest creditors (600million)

London transport is on the committee (40m) and the cats home unknown but a lot less than us.

We could be mistaken in thinking that there is some conspiracy afoot to bury us.
A twist in the expat tale. 2:47pm on 02 Dec 2008 My husband and I have worked hard and been prudent all of our lives.
As we were working abroad we banked with the Derbyshire Building Society
Last year The Derbyshire sold out to Kaupthing singer and Friedlander and their directors were duly rewarded with the usual obscene bonuses.
Savers were assured that all would be as usual Kaupthing Singer and Friedlander were a very sound bank and all deposits were covered 100% by a 'parental guarentee'

Any anxieties we felt were put to rest by this and the warm assurances of the Managing Director of the bank.

We are not fat cats , millionaires or tax dodgers and have spent our working lives often in difficult and stressful circumstances

Now we are approaching retirement and planned to spend our declining years secure in the fact that we had enough to fund our retirement without being dependent or a burden on anyone.

That has now all changed we face a bleak and uncertain future .

We and many like us may be forced through no fault of their own to throw themselves on the mercy of the welfare system.

Why is this?
We have done no wrong we are British people .
We are in the main elderly or retired .
We ask for nothing other than our hard earned savings be returned to us.

Money that would have been or coming back to the uk to fund house purchase and/or is already funding retirement

The major part of these savings are frozen in the UK by the actions of HMG
AS in fact KSF IOM and UK were sound banks until their assets were frozen.

Please Mr Darling
You are hitting on the most vulnerable of people .Elderly people who cannot recover from such a blow our working lives already coming to an end.

People who are funding care for their elderly parents in nursing homes

People who had sold their houses to downsize people who have been hard working people all of their lives.

British people .
