General gimmick? 2:09pm on 07 Oct 2009 Ha ha - yet another 'Tory opening mouth before putting brain in gear' scenario.

It's all about David Cameron and PR which was, lest we forget, his actual job before he joined the Westminster Village.
A massive electoral gamble 4:32pm on 06 Oct 2009 'We're all in this together', says Osbourne. Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but all the measures he outlined to start reducing the national debt do seem to be rather tsrgeted at those towards the bottom end of the scale.

Presumably he'll be announcing measures that affect those at the top of the tree nearer the election? Maybe a tax on third homes...

Has the City learned anything? 2:22pm on 14 Jul 2009 Having worked with/for Mr Cowdery, I doubt whether what I think about him will get past the moderators, so I won't even try.

Move one chumk of money from A to B, taking a nice little cut for yourself. Add no value to policyholders whatsoever. That seems to be the rule of thumb - and all perfectly acceptable apparently.

Fair play to the FSA (never thought I'd write those words) they have issued a pretty stiff guidance note to Financial Advisers regarding their responsibilities for their clients who might have funds with Friends Provident, to ensure that they are getting suitable pensions advice. This, at least, might mean a lot of money transferring out of Friends Prov if any when Mr Cowdery and his parasitical friends get their hands on the funds.
Why bankers aren't worth it 11:52am on 03 Jul 2009 Call the bankers bluff. We're always told that they need to be paid big salaries otherwise they'll all swan off and work overseas - well why not try it? It would certainly be a case of 'addition by subtraction' in temrs of what they actually bring to UK society. (And don't mention us missing out on the tax they pay, because most of them have 'tax advisers' who ensure that they'll pay very little)

As for the talk about getting rid of Bercow after the next election - that's hardly going to inspire the general public that politicians are turning over a new leaf is it.
Why King changed his mind 11:08am on 18 Jun 2009 Years ago left wing politicians would talk about the need to be able to 'give orders to bankers, not take orders from them'. They'd be routinely excoriated for this sort of thing by the Tories and their friends in the media.

Three extraordinary personal decisions 12:13pm on 05 Jun 2009 When someone comes to write the history of the last couple of months, Johnson, Hutton and Milliband can be listed as 'Guilty Men'.

Pathetic. At this rate, Labour will be lucky to end up with 150 seats after the next election - making them almost inviable as an opposition. With Johnson himself in charge they could conceivably have 250.
