Me and Me and Orson Welles 12:39pm on 29 Nov 2009 I have to still hold to the fact that the only films that have made me 'feel good' in the most literal sense of the word under cinematic terms are Toy Story and Babe... otherwise the films that make me genuinely feel good are one of the following;
A truly stupid but effective film that satisfies a need i have at the time of my watching it. For example Shoot 'Em Up, a film with barely any brains but so much guns, blood and shooting that, at the time of the film, it just hit the spot perfectly and left me leaving the cinema with a huge smile on my face.
And the second kind of film that makes me feel good are the ones that you just dont expect. For example Last House on Dead End Street. I bought it because it was a stupidly low price, a quid or something, and ended up watching it in my free time a few days later only to discover it wasnt a Last House on the Left rip-off that no one had heard of for good reason, but one of the most grainy, gritty, atmospheric and eerie films i had ever seen and ended up being one of my favorite films. I certainly felt good after watching that.

Oh and misleading reviews? How about SCARIEST FILM EVER, RUDE CRUDE AND TERRIBLY FUNNY, MESMERIZING etc etc etc

Screening Room: Animation & Aardman 11:41pm on 19 Nov 2009 i have thought about it for a while now and come to the conclusion that it would take some real skill to have a digimation flick for a matura audience. Anime has long since been a place in the art of cinema where some of the most horrific thoughts are expressed, yet digimation (correct me if im wrong) is pretty much always been used to present childrens or family films, and it has been this way for so long now that it is hard to picture it under any other light, and would therefore be hard to take seriously if it were to deal with the more explicit of issues...
Call of Civic Duty 2 6:52pm on 18 Nov 2009 Mark i have been a fairly avid gamer ever since i was a child and i can tell you this; the most recent Call of Duty ONLY has such controversy because of the extravagant publication (that you touched upon) its release has been given. There are FAR more violent and offensive games out there that deal with issues some of the most controversial films don't even go into! I am 110% positive the controversy will be over within the week, 2 weeks at most.
This kind of game too shouldn't really be held responsible for a controversy covering all games that have mature content, as the CoD games have been, and always will be, very simple games with very simple story-lines that concentrate on nothing more than engaging the player in an immersive shooting gallery. It is, after all, a shooting game and that is not to be ignored as a pretty normal form of entertainment these days.

Besides the game is getting very average reviews anyway.
The ten-second vampire movie 6:18pm on 28 Oct 2009 Im sorry but twilight is NOT about abstinence, it is about one thing and one thing ONLY: Money. The novels... perhaps (if your really stubborn). It infuriates me when people try to review Twilight in any way other than to see it as the consumerist pile of garbage it is! I am studying sociology at the moment and dying to drag this subject into my work, as i think you (and others) may be glamorizing this a little. It may well be linked into sex if you really push it, but it is all about the money in this case. Vampires are 'in' at the moment, they are a little bubble in the sea of pop culture that will most probably soon rise to the surface and vanish.
Thirst has been a film i've been looking forward to far beyond this craze started, i don't even know how long that damn film has taken to produce, but its a while. Let the Right One In can only be seen as a coincidence in timing, as it certainly isn't a fluke, and True Blood follows the same materialistic principals of Twilight and even more so with its further mutated sequel.
This is an issue that is seriously getting on my nerves to say the least.
Also i do very much appreciate Cronos as a film with a purpose, but past its brilliant ideas and wonderful take on the vampire mythology, i simply couldn't enjoy it. It didn't bore me or offend me, i just couldn't push myself into enjoying it even a bit. Maybe i should watch it again sometime, it may well be one of those films i just have to watch twice...

Trailer Treachery 6:56pm on 21 Oct 2009 Remember the trailers for Hard Candy, it showed absolutely no footage of the film whatsoever... and intrigued me enough to want to see just what it was. I say in that case it was definitely keeping the film from me that influencing my seeing it. Also i am sure you remember the old trailer for the exploitation films of the 70s/early 80s (usually zombie/cannibal flicks where the entire film was basically shown to you with the films title being blared out at half minute intervals in the epic spoiler of a trailer. Did they really ruin the film... or did you already know what was coming.
The Revisitations of Doctor Kermode 4:02pm on 15 Oct 2009 I have seen Dawn of the Dead way over a hundred times... still a masterpiece.

Maybe if your one of those people who liked Twilight and/or Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp version) you should watch the films again and again until you finally realize how materialistic and absolutely god awful they both truly are.
Music Lesson 2:31pm on 26 Sep 2009 There is an eye wateringly horrible scene in the film Killing Zoe (which isn't too great anyway) where the... bad guy? (i cant remember the actor or characters name) plays a trumpet/saxophone/clarinet (cant remember which instrument either). He is swinging his head and body around left and right and doing god only nows what with the instrument yet what you hear is a straight from the studio, clean recording of the instrument being played. Also an example of a very amateur or shabby piece of filming in general if you ask me.
