Why Sir James Crosby resigned 8:45pm on 11 Feb 2009 The conclusion of KPMG - "that HBOS had appropriate risk controls in place" does not address Paul Moore's criticism in the slightest.

His criticism is that those controls were being ignored and overidden by senior management.

The "appropriate risk control" WAS Paul Moore - and we saw what happened to him.
Fixing banks' boards 10:22pm on 08 Feb 2009 It's just the standard nu-labor tactic of delaying, sidetracking, looking like you care, agree with everyone, buy time, do nothing ,stay popular,spin,waffle and panic.

Meanwhile in the real world someone else just lost their job.

Obama biffs bonuses 11:22am on 04 Feb 2009 So how many people on average wage does it take to pay a banker (in a virtually nationalised bank) 350,000 quid a year ?

Well 4,000 quid tax per person on average wage means nearly 100 people have to go to work all year to pay for the salary of one banker.

Or - all of the tax paid by a small business employing 100 people just to support one person who won't then loan that business any money.

How long will people play this game until they realise its the game itself that doesn't work ?

The long and short of banks 09:51am on 23 Jan 2009 Can someone explain this to me ?

Robert says that there could have been a run on the banks last year, such was the state of their finances. So if all the taxpayers went to get their money out, the banks could not have provided it.

So Gordon provides 800 billion to the banks so that there wont be a run on the banks. So far I understand.

So if we, the taxpayer, now go to withraw our money, it is Gordon's 8-- billion that is supplying the money.

So where did all the original depositors money go to ?

The taxpayer has provided 800 billion to the banks so that....so that.....so that the taxpayer can take out of the bank the money that was originally theirs anyhow.

Does the Bank Rate matter? 10:12am on 08 Jan 2009 Very interesting article. Perhaps someone, or yourself Robert, could enlighten me on the following.....

There has been a massacre in the Banking business - one which is still going on. If this had happened in any other industry, one of the first things that I would have expected to see was NEW competition.

Is there any possibility of a brand new bank being set up by someone with some brains who realises that the competition is so paralised that they could not possibly fight of the newcomer?

Imagine, a bank with REAL reseves able to lend REAL cash to people who need it (such as #56 from yesterday).
