Many mentally ill IB claimants (approximately 1 million of those registered) could consider registering for Disability Living Allowance. Those who don't, might easily be bullied into agreeing a plan, and then be in hospital when it comes time to implement the plan: what then?

What does Frank Field think of all this?

And -- to be political -- does this help the Government remain in power next year? Whilst it has the support of the tories, disaffected labour supporters on IB will presumably have always been more tempted to vote Liberal; and up here in the North West, they are the alternative party anyway. I'm not sure I see the electoral advantage of this reform.
The sanctity of the Commons 6:15pm on 28 Nov 2008 I -- of course -- acknowledge that the police should arrest suspects in futherence of their investigations.

However, I should think that all right-thinking Englishmen would be proud to have been arrested on so nebulous a charge as: "Conspiring to commit misconduct in a public office".

If Mr Green has any sense he'll have ordered up the T-shirts already; and you, Nick, ought to be first in line. After all, all journalism worthy of the name is guilty of that charge, isn't it?
Two go mad in Silicon Valley... 4:21pm on 28 Nov 2008 I'm obviously a bit late coming to this, but there is a solution to the problem of idle computers consuming power needlessly: go asynchronous!

And there's no need to go all that way to California either. Here at the home of computing at Manchester University, our group has been working on chips that only consume power when they do something. And we've been so successful that many readers will already be using our chips in their mobiles.
