Glad it's not just me who notices that everything we are told we need to spend has "bln" after it. Yet weirdly every thing to be spent on us has "mln" after it. Thought I was imagining it! You are of course correct we need to start spending on reversing our decline by getting on top of the energy crisis and the jobs crisis. Again, weirdly, in my mind they could be related and have a related solution. Just can't put my finger on it... just like our politicians I must have a blind spot.

Is this the first domino of financial crisis round 2? What we should be asking surely, as conscripted investors in two major UK banks is, How much is possibly NOT coming our way that we are expecting? or more simply - what is our exposure?

IF these documents are genuine especially the HARRY_READ_ME.TXT then we need a public enquiry into the behaviour of those at CRU. I think that is without question.

I tried not to go and look :) but as a programmer that uses databases and has used text datasets to import data into databases (not in science but in mass marketing databases [blush]) our friend Harry has my respect for his efforts to sort out the bad and missing data. But, given the context and importance of his work, was misguided - he could and should have refused or blown the whistle after his discoveries. The other question that this "diary file" raises is "who is/was checking Harry?", because if no-one has/is then all of CRUs science is currently simply Harry's Interpretation.

The power given to this individual is astounding! I would have been petrified by the implications of what I was doing.

There would be a chance if we were ants or bees. 192 humans reaching a consensus might happen. 192 COUNTRIES?

When politics matters... 4:46pm on 09 Nov 2009 I think what everyone is trying to articulate is that this letter (if it is as shown on Sky News) was not fit for purpose. It is NOT respectful because it appears to have been written hastily and carelessly, whether that is the case or not is irrelevant the letter should not have been sent in that form.

We are talking of a letter from our leader (whether we want him to be or not) to the family of a fallen hero, and believe me I think that is the right word, again whether we believe in the ultimate cause or not. The letter represents us all and many of us would never have sent such a document.

This reaction to the style and form of the letter to Jamie Janes' family reflects the way we are all feeling about many things that the government have done recently in our names, about the lack of respect for others that seems to permeate our government and therefore our society. The letter is a material confirmation of our current view of politics in The UK.

The perception of the Cenotaph incident is just a continuation. The bowing of the head should have been unambiguous as was that of the Queen.

"mild snap in early February "- Ermm we were under a blanket of snow in early Feb. If I remember right!

The runners are not quite so happy now - I have to admit, cold nights now are probably the end of them - but is IS November.

That may be so, but here in southern England I am still picking new growth runner(string?) beans. This I believe is due to the weather not climate.

not 100% certain as this has not happened before...
