Information: Have you ever paid for it? 11:45am on 25 Nov 2009 News information will follow adverting budgets... online.
Yes I will pay for my local West Somerset weekly rag, but only when they cease printing the increasingly thin, doomed paper version which I no longer buy, but instead read other people copy stale.
Same applies to nationals, which by delaying the switch over from paper to the net, will be wiped out by completion from bigger innovative online information sharks such as the publicly funded, free to read, without advert clutter... BBC website. Plus the likes of Google and BT.
History tells us everything changes during a period of economic evolution... either adapt fast or die.
Which begs the question, how long before the BBC websites are deemed too dominant, too valuable and sold off to reduce the expanding UK overdraft?

Evolving economy ( where its heading, nobody knows)
Eyeball economy ( maths with vision ) only one or two economists like Saint Vince Cable spotted what lay ahead.
BirdsNest economy (Lookout! the economic engine has moved east )
Creative economy ( QE )
Cobbler economy ( temporary fix )
Simple economy ( one new trading currency )
FatClub economy ( leaner times ahead)
Tectonic economy ( everything changed )

On another note re this blog, thanks guys its great thought provoking reading again after JJs demise.
Although I miss Alexander Curzon's to the point rants.

Answer - Great Britain PLC has been mismanaged.
The US has been mismanaged too, but it has resources, still manufactures goods and invests in its future. France ditto and French people don't like debt.
Britain PLC has been living beyond its means, has next to no oil or gas left, we have flogged our utilities to the highest overseas bidder, have made no investment in large infrastructure projects, have power stations in urgent need of replacement. The financial centre of the world... the city of London requires effective regulation or it too might follow manufacturing east.
We have a bloated public sector with a pension time bomb, have been funding expensive wars nobody voted for or can win, have a tourism industry in need of radical reform, a private sector drowning in red tape, decaying high streets, coastal resorts, and judging by that filthy Leeds street on TV yesterday, have areas that are 3rd world style rat infested hell holes.
Nothing will change until the British people sack this irresponsible, incompetent, short sighted Gov, who have bled the country dry, run up a national debt of mind blowing amounts, run out of ideas and dosh or the IMF are called in to make our leaders inflict the required pain to effect a cure.
Printing money to keep us ticking over till something turns up Mr Macawber style, can only work if a long term recovery strategy of big infrastructure projects like as already mentioned Severn Barrage also get underway.
I watched Singapore's foundling father, 86 year old Mr Lee Kuan Yew, interviewed on Bloomberg late last night, he is as a man of integrity with clear global thoughts, he implemented a big plan that worked for Singapore which is being copied by China. When will our leaders here notice... everything changed...while Britain binged on debt and was raped.
Please fellow non political bloggers tell me...where will any growth come from?

Short term stimulus packages VAT reduction, car scrappage scheme, etc have kept the unemployment numbers down, not flexibility of the workforce.
Wait... when these stop and winter starts then trustworthy unemployment numbers will emerge.
Its impossible to think economic recovery is round the corner when everything is unstable and untrustworthy.
Normality and confidence can only return after an election, when hopefully a fresh team of long term thinkers with a mandate and a plan to invest in Britain's future will take charge.

House prices: Too good to be true? 11:14am on 02 Oct 2009 House prices are dependant on ... land value, labour, building material, and planning costs, most of which continue to increase... not decrease.
A good property with potential in a good location will always be a good investment in this tiny overpopulated island.
Now we have sane sustainable lending policies from banks, and when utterly useless Hips get dumped after the election... my money is on Britain's housing market reverting to pre boom growth normality.... unless ! swine flu reduces the population or millions of Brits become unemployed or interest rates increase.

Nationalistic sentiments over who owns what, don't belong in today's interconnected commercial world. Brand strength is everything.

Its far too late to turn the clock back, not a lot left to sell.
Even Britain's utilities are now owned by other countries.
