What colorful insight into American politics.
To whom can I attribute to this quotion to? the phrase 'KScurmudgeon's grandfather' does not seem to fit well.

Yesterday's Elections in Virginia, while not exactly a referendum on Obama, are indicaitive of how the state will vote in a year.
People aren't so much angry with Obama as they are with congressional democrats, who didn't seem to get the message: 800 billion bailout to the companies that prey upon the working man is a step in the wrong direction. Working class people in Virginia still struggle under some of the highest taxes in the nation, and have been threatened with even higher taxes, of course they are going to turn away from the 'tax-and-spend' party.

You dems can rest assured: even if the House and Senate go back to the GOP, Obama would have to do something very stupid to lose re-election in '12.
Obama defends climate change record 01:55am on 23 Sep 2009 Green energy is a very good idea which is much needed, but not for the reasons that global-warmers espouse.

The idea that man-made causes are the controlling factor in climate change is exceedingly arrogant.

There are massive forces affecting climate over which we have no control and are difficult to quantify becuase they are much larger than our ability to accurately measure. The math used in man-made climate change argument is flawed in that it is lacking variables for these forces. This lack of information in the current climate change models is what makes them scientifically flawed.

just because few prominent figures in acedemic circles have abandoned the scientific method to speak in favor of a popular, but as yet un-proven, theory does not in-fact prove that theory. To assume that global warming is eminent, when we don't actually know the direction of the change is not logical. We could just as easily easily be on the cusp of another ice age.

If the United States, Europe and all the rest of the western world acheived their targets acording to the Kyoto agreement, man-made CO2 emissions would still grow: population and industrial growth in China and India will increase C02 emissions far beyond our capity to enact reductions.

A revolution in green technologies in America will cause environmetal improvement and economic prosperity. Eventually American demand for petrolium will fall far below domestic production and we will cease to import oil, when that happens, OPEC will raise prices in an attempt to compensate for falling revenues, which in-turn will promt India and China to want our technologies and we will gladly sell to them.

The time frame for these changes is measured in decades not years and Obama will be ancient history before the effects of CO2 emmision reductions take affect, assuming of course that they are the cause of climate change. If Obama wants to be remembered for his part in changing the world for the better, he should encourage the development and distribution of these technologies.

How Carolinians see the race row 02:07am on 18 Sep 2009 In the political climate of the 1850s that led up to the civil war, there were two opposing political views, so polarized that each side hated the other. They could not think rationally of the other’s arguments or views, they could find no middle ground & only avoided open warfare (for a while) by staying in different states in different regions.

Those who saw that war coming and tried to stop it with well reasoned debate, could not get through the hard-headed partisan politics of the day. Sam Houston was one such person, and for his efforts he was impeached as governor of Texas, only his high standing as a hero of the Mexican-American war kept his fellow Texans from hanging him as traitor.

The politics of today are polarized in much the same way, although the issues have changed. How is that Statesmen like John McCain and Joseph Lieberman could reach across the Isle to men of the other party and find common ground and bi-partisan support for well written legislation, while Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi cannot? Why can't we discuss the issues logically and dispassionately without resorting to libelous accusations and demonizing stereotypes?

How much more prejudiced than that can you get?

Those are fighting words. You're not looking to win over anyone to your particular political philosophy. You just want to denigrate and demean, as if one should be ashamed to be white or hold onto the principles of liberty and limited government that kept this nation free.

I fear that the time of our elder statesmen is over. The ability to see beyond our differences and find common ground is gone. All that's left is blind hatred that denies the humanity of your political opponent. Have we have forgotten the lessons of history?

Only a few short years ago when Democrats and Republicans of the Senate stood upon the steps together and sang: God Bless America. Will that ever happen again?
Is race a factor in Obama protests? 00:14am on 17 Sep 2009 I don't like health care the way it is now, and if the government takes it over, once the bureaucracy will takes everything will get worse. I might go to the doctor if I have a bullet hole in me, but other wise I’ll trust my own judgment and not some quack pushing the pharmaceutical companies’ poisons. Oh, wait… that’s already happening.

You guys are right: a bigger government is just what we need to solve all our problems.

The Republicans have been proposing alternatives from the start, they've have been shut out of all discussion by the majority party.

This blue dog you were talking about is news to me. Fascinating, I will have to read more about it. Maybe he will be the second Democrat to ever get my support.

Instead, He came out to support of Obama and that drew comparisons between his failed Presidency, and Obama’s administration.

Definitely not a good idea on his part, but then again he was a submariner, and submariners are a loony lot.
Is race a factor in Obama protests? 11:48pm on 16 Sep 2009 Yes more than 50 percent of American voters were wrong last year, and now they are starting to realize that they made a huge mistake by voting for the most liberal admistration, EVER.

They can't undo the damage they have done to our administration until 2012, but they have an oportunity to balance it out in 2010. Those of us who are saying I told you so, can help point the way.
