What evidence do you have that they are wealth creators?? This is a totally irresponsible statement without any proof or backing. On the other hand they take away wealth from the common man i.e. the Tax payer and enrich themselves.
850 billion of support just means that the Tax payer has given the banking industry the support worth taxes given by them in the last 300 years.
There will always be banks in the UK and financial services. So there is no chance of us losing any jobs.
And if we do need talented people we can get them from the third world countries at 10% of the cost. Is there anything that you believe that they(bankers) can do and somebody else cannot do? We are up for the challenge if you can come up with a list of those things.
I would say good riddance. Lord Turner has already been quoted as saying that most financial services activities are socially useless.

Wake-up call for world peace 5:10pm on 09 Oct 2009 Noble price is becoming a joke now! How can a person who has been in office for 9 months receive a noble prize? What has he done in 9 months except for bailing out the banks?
We'll pay for banks to be virtuous 11:35am on 06 Oct 2009 The whole system is illogical. How can you spend money which does not exist/which you have'nt earned? Why do you need a phd in economics to figure that out? Mortgages, loans, credit cards should all be abolised. Banking should be a non-profit making organisation. You are right mutual is the nearest to a non-profit banking system. Banks should either be mutualised or nationalised. All bonuses should be cancelled. This should happen all over the world so that bankers have nowhere to go.
Some might ask, oh how will I ever be able to buy a home without a mortgage. Answer is, if there were no mortgages available house prices will fall and people will be able to buy homes for cheap again.

If we don't do this now, we will ultimately have to do it sometime when all these institutions fail, it might take 5,10,20 years. This system is not workable or logical.
The Goodwin pension questions 2:53pm on 26 Feb 2009 Goodwin had helped and payed the government and labour party for his title "Sir". This was by sponsoring election money and tax payed and other things. So it was time for the labour party to pay back it's friends bankers like Goodwin et al, with a little bit of our money.
Rock revival 10:30am on 23 Feb 2009 Why don't they just allow residential properties in a SIPP instead? It will still be tougher for first time buyers to get on ladder, but atleast we will have a housing market standing firm and banks won't have to write down assets.
If they allow it in the SIPP most people won't need a mortgage either and save the banks from lending for houses and they can concentrate on lending businesses instead. Lending to businesses is more important IMO.

Just imagine I can own my house with my SIPP and I the banks can use up the freed up capital to lend to businesses.

The only problem with this plan is that people will start taking money out of the financial industry, mutual funds etc.

And we all know Brown and other labour leaders have good friends in the financial industry. So this won't be allowed.
Why should a taxpayer give money to fund managers in the hope that one day that will provide for there retirement. Why not just buy your own residential property using your SIPP funds and that will provide for the retirement.

How can we trust the fund managers to provide for our pensions. How can we trust guys like Madoff, Stanford, Worldcom, Enron, Anderson consulting, Satyam, list is endless.

Why does the government encourage us to trust these corrupt people?
