Was Daschle irreplaceable? 4:09pm on 06 Feb 2009 I think in the long run, it will be better for the country with Daschle kept out of health reform. He has too many ties, both financial and social, to the entrenched healthcare industry. For true healthcare reform to happen we need someone without ties to the people who are part of the problem.

As for tax evasion, I completely support going after officials who have not paid their taxes. Since these are the very people who write the tax code, I expect them to pay every penny that is owed to the government.
Confirming our prejudices 6:27pm on 19 Nov 2008 All of the documentaries and conspiracy theories in the world cannot cover up the fact that the Republican party has been very successful in alienating many different factions in the party. Libertarians, Fiscal Conservatives, Moderates, etc.

As a former Republican myself, in this election several friends and co-workers whom I would have expected to stay home rather than vote for a Democrat turned out for Obama in '08.

I dearly hope the Republicans lose big again in 2010, hopefully then the party leaders will stop listening to the Religious conservatives and Neo-cons and start appealing to the mainstream.
