Rock blew whistle on economic flop 12:37pm on 20 Mar 2009 what is incredible is that no-one have the courage to stare down anyone.
If risky lending was continuing it was probably on the basis of a contractual obligation. (sound familiar)

As usual the good old British taxpayer only has the obligation to pay up, but not the right even to an NHS dentist.

we have 15 more months of this.
Does the Bank Rate matter? 10:39am on 08 Jan 2009 We have already put "countless squillions" into the banks and they havn't yet come out as they were supposed to.

If we put more in how do we know that would come out?

It's a guarantee that printing money will be the only option left.

So the banks have to now be by-passed. They have made so many mistakes on such a vast scale that this has made bank Rate irrelevant as an economic tool.
Does the Bank Rate matter? 10:22am on 08 Jan 2009 One thing for sure, long term lessons must not be forgotten.

Taking "toxic" loans away from the banks is tantamount to exempting them from stupid mistakes of the past.

For an economy to flourish, (Thats long term - not just for the life of this government Gordon!) bad behaviour must be seen to have bad consequences and this includes for banks and bankers.

When I studied economics I was told that higher risk = higher potential reward, so why at a time of higher perceived, (not real 'cos GB is going to guarantee these loans) are rates being cut?

Has anyone done the sums and figured out just how many seniors are cutting back their spending and what the impact of that will be?

One digression if I may - at the hotel where they found all those Rumanians working illegally by producing forged Portugese documents - did anyone check whether they could actually speak Portugese????
Sterling challenge for UK shops 09:59am on 08 Jan 2009 So sales are down 3 or 7%, depending on whose results you look at.

But profits are up.

I conclude that this means that we are just buying more imported cheap goods, so the only beneficiaries are factories in China.

Just what we need.

Trouble is that manufacturing just isn't tidy enough for bankers, so they absolutely fell on the idea of making buckets of money without doing any more than moving a few bits of paper.

Paper they understand, but making and building things requires brains.

They just proved that they have no brains.

They proved they have no socks either. Have no socks, can't pull them up can they?
Bank of England: wrong and powerless 3:19pm on 27 Dec 2008 Only one thing left to say and that is just how very nice it is of Gordon to so generously allow all the elderly savers to pay for the correction of his mistakes with the lowering of the returns on their hard earned savings.

Let's all remember this at the next election. If we havn't frozen or starved to death that is.

It is after all the job of the Government to ensure that everything is someone's responsibility.

Instead, all we get is -

"We are well placed......" when in fact we will be hurt the hardest of all nations - just take a look at the depreciation of the £.

Constant use of the word "Global" at every opportunity, when in fact GB let the whole thing rip away while he was ready to take the credit, when he should have been putting in checks & balances to protect us.
