Benitez gets his timing wrong 11:04am on 20 Jan 2009 brooksy ur wrong! i watch liverpool every week and there is a big difference in the way teams set up against spurs than they do against liverpool. Keane is not afforded the time and space he was at spurs and rightly so liverpool play through gerrard because he is probably the best midfielder in the world. he shows that week in week out. it almost looks as though no on trusts keane's ability. he is short on confidence as it is. 4-4-2 did not suit us at all it meant gerrard and alonso had to sit deep which meant when we attacked we did it slowly. the only quick break out we had was a long ball from hyypia to set up torres!

in addition to other points, benitez was right to take torres off the guy was shattered! i personally woulsd have just swapped him like for like with babel because we simply invited pressure on ourselves bringing lucas on. another player who no one has confidence in.
Benitez gets his timing wrong 09:49am on 20 Jan 2009 keane just does not fit in our team. he can try and try and try a bit more but when you watch liverpool u just can't see anything that keane brings to the team.

i think the difference between liverpool and spurs is that last season at spurs their strikers were the focal point of the team and everything went through keane and berbatov whereas at liverpool everything goes through the middle in order that gerrard and alonso can stamp their authority on the game.

Torres did not look interested in passing the ball to keane it was rly strange!

I will agree Steve Gibson is one of the best and most loyal chairmen in the league. Heck he even gave Mr McClaren enough time so he could shine. I really don't fear for Middlesbrough though, i think there are far more teams with less quality than yourselves. Although im not the one who is watching them every week.

Along with Randy Lerner you probably do have the best chairman in the league. Compare yourselves with a club like Spurs who are so badly run its beyond a joke.

I think you are a little quick to say Blackburn should be safe. Just like Redknapp, Allardyce is probably still in his honeymoon period so it will be interesting to see how they are getting on in 5 games time. Mind you anyone who can get Jason Roberts scoring like he is deserves alot of credit!

This to me is like a real life version of Champ Mangager! When i used to play and id get a massive transfer budget lets be honest we all did it... i went and looked for the best attacking players about and let the defence sort itself out!

Im not saying City won't go and improve their defence because they do really need to but it looks like its another case of the Galatico's who we all know fell apart as a major European threat when Makelele left and wasn't replaced!

To all those who don't like what Man City are doing unfortunately its tough luck and all you can do is sit back and enjoy the likes of Robinho and potentially Kaka.

If City are successful the major losers are clubs like Villa, Tottenham and Everton. Those are all clubs who havve once harboured thoughts of playing Champions league football. (which applies to Villa this year!) It is hard enough with with the so called big 4 at the moment but throw an even bigger club into the mix and what chance do they have?!

This to me is very different to how Chelsea found success. Without CL football i think City will find it quite difficult to attract top stars to the club apart from those money-grabbers like Robinho. Talking of Robinho... will he still be at City if they don't make the CL next year? And those big name players they do sign in January or in the summer will have ridiculous clauses in their contract allowing them to leave if they don't get in the CL.

Man City have always been a club who has suffered alot of low points in their history and i can really see a repeat here.
Review of the week 3:35pm on 14 Jan 2009 BCChris i think you are spot on about Mourinho. Not only because of his relationship with Fergie but also if you saw his press conference when Inter drew United in the CL i have never heard Mourinho talk up an oppostion team so much (albeit they r world and euro champions!) He is also the most likely person to try and keep Ronaldo at the club should he decide to part when Fergie does.

The only stumbling block i think could be the style of play he likes which certainly isn't in keeping with United's tradition. Also providing City don't offer him half a million quid a week!
Button it Benitez! 4:30pm on 13 Jan 2009 I was beggining to agree with you there up until that bit about Liverpool! Torres hasn't played in any of our big games this season and we took 7 points from 3 games which isn't bad at all! 2 away games in there also!

I think credit has to go to Liverpool for coping without the likes of Torres for the large majority of the season and he will only be a plus for the remainder of season which fills every Liverpool supporter with confidence!

In regards to Stoke, yes they are hard to beat on their own patch but from a Liverpool perspective its pretty poor that we have played them home and away and failed to score! But on Saturday i must say they thoroughly deserved their point and actually looked more threatening than we did going forward! I won't get too worked up about it though i think a good merseyside derby double-header will allow us to put that right to the back of our minds! Bring on the blue noses!
Button it Benitez! 4:13pm on 13 Jan 2009 ok admittedly he does make fun of his own team which is a rare commodity in a football fan these days. but come on... stimulating debate on current issues?! Really???

So by that token if United drop points tomorrow against Wigan are all the Liverpool supporters allowed to claim that Benitez has got to them?! All this talk is a complete load of nonsense! Why aren't we debating the matches that these teams played in over the weekend rather than what the managers have to say!
Button it Benitez! 4:00pm on 13 Jan 2009 well no i will keep reading becuase i like to hear what others have to say. I actively choose to pick out those which i disagree with otherwise i would just be repeating what someone else has said!

Its also in the FOOTBALL section and there is very little footballing debate in this blog im afraid.
