Obamanomics 3:47pm on 09 Dec 2008 Until the problems have worked themselves through the system then there is nothing too be done. Other than having some safety nets to break the fall for individuals. When the dust has settled then we can see where we need to go. Currently we are in the “phoney war”, things will really hit us in 2009, job losses & because of the weak pound a large rise in the cost of imported goods.

24 News demands instant responses, Gordon is responding, too early and as will all his forecasts too optimistically, VAT was planned to go to 18 or 20% when we will be in the bottom of the hole just before the election. Was it the hole or the election that stopped that?

Who was it that said when in a hole stop digging and we have been borrowing too much and the solution is to borrow even more? How does that work?

With the notable exception of Gloucestershire Police who worked hard and got inprisoned members of the Johnson family (notorious extended family in Cheltenham who it is said committed most of the crime in the area). Most law enforcement will go for generally law abiding citizens who slip up - speeding, putting the bin out too early etc. As it's easy and profitable, you do a tax return wrong and you are a normal person, it can be proved you get fined. If you are rich enough you don't pay tax as you are non resident, or you can afford a good barrister to get you off. How many cases does the SFO win? Not many as the fraud is too hard for the Judge - Jury to understand, so people get off. Hence fine the plebs and the big boys are left alone.

Just read Private Eye it's full of them, or look at Italy's priminister. Or what doesn't happen to our government ministers when say untruths, lose things, rewrite history. Could a less elevated person get away with it?
Weep for Woolies 5:25pm on 27 Nov 2008 Insurance is the scourge of modern life, once you are a believer you are happy to pay this tax on everything you do so you are "safe".

Lack of it stops village fetes to businesses from functioning.

Life is a gamble, if you want to take a risk do it. Why place a bet first to cover yourself in case you lose? We all know the odds are in favour of the bookie.

And here we have a case where the lack of someone to take the bet has ruined it for everyone, just at the time most money was about to be made.
