Fleet Foxes - musical genius or just too sappy? 11:01pm on 10 Mar 2009 I kind of know what you mean. I've been listening to the album and the Sun Giant EP for the last couple of months. They are both beautiful pieces of work. What I find is that Fleet Foxes are difficult to listen to en bloc. The songs need room to breath, they need space and the two second interval between them is not enough.

I find that I'm overwhelmed and skip songs just to get a break. I can't agree that they can't be liked or that they are too sappy, I'd liken listening to them as eating really sweet tablet. You love it but only a small piece at a time.

That said, I could listen to Mykonos on repeat ad infinitum.

You could always send the kids in and wait for them in the car, listening to the radio or something.

Mind you, now that you are armed with the knowledge would you really want subject your kids to seeing a film where the star dies at the end?

Do you prefer the show in the studio or at an event? 9:05pm on 09 Mar 2009 Hi Ellen, I'm just home from tonight's filming in Glasgow and was a saddened to find out that this was the last planned studio recording. I've been lucky enough to attend two recordings and enjoyed the experience both times. The studio environment, with audience, is a great setting for the show. Intimate enough for the presenters to be warm and personable and an ideal fulcrum to balance the different reports. The live performances always sound great and it's good to see and hear live music in a small studio, I remember The Late Show!

Anyway, what's the plan for the show? On the road or in the studio?

What have been your Culture Show highlights of 2008? 11:04am on 18 Dec 2008 Mark Kermode's Local Hero segment was great. I was at the filming of episode 16 and it was great to see the workings of the programme and enjoy the humour and easy professionalism of Lauren and Mark. The first song from the Fence Collecive was a belter.
