• What future for media and journalism? 6:04pm on 01 Sep 2009 EXCELLENT worries, Robert! Centralising news is as bad as centralising the issue of money for the Nation.
  
  For who controls the controllers? These unelected officials from regulators and the central banks???
  
  But issuing money comes before using it to pay editors and the control of stories. Keep worrying and writing!

• Will QE work? 8:50pm on 15 Mar 2009 QE does help - investors abroad, writes The Independent on March 14. I'm commenting on it on my blog [ Money as Debt also known as Credit. I also criticize the language used to camouflage what the financial economy is doing: crippling the real economy - without morals or conscience, let alone ethics.
  
  In response to the question raised "what can you and I do?" we have launched the petition Financial Fairness for Voters and Taxpayers, please!. I am also promoting Bartercard as an ethical bank that uses "trade pounds" to help businesses do business. [Once upon a time, money was invented for that purpose!]
  
  Robert, could you help get the government to accept trade pounds as payment from taxpayers?
  
  Real people in the real economy would be enormously grateful!

  Is 'nationalising' an empty word though, I wonder, when it's about ensuring shareholders' income?
  
  How many taxpayers (and if so, which ones?) benefit from any equity in UKFI, whether it originates from Lloyds, Barclays or Northern Rock?
  
  What if every British citizen became a shareholder in UK plc instead? Then shareholder values might have some 'national' meaning at least!

• Bank of England: wrong and powerless 1:40pm on 22 Dec 2008 I have heard Mervyn King admit to the Economic Affairs Committee at the House of Lords that they don't really know what they are doing when they change interest rates and that the effect may be felt only two years later...
  
  But why has the "Monetary Policy Committee" that used to meet in the House of Lords become part of the BoE?
  
  Why has Alan Greenspan promoted the myth of 2% inflation target?
  
  Why does everybody responsible hide behind "globalisation"?
  
  I have offered my software methods to Sir John Gieve, but have not had had a response. Maybe the "political will" is lacking to solve the crisis for it is a plan that works according to design???

• Varley: credit to shrink for up to two years 10:24pm on 20 Dec 2008 Once upon a time, money was an interest-free medium of exchange rather than a financial product sold by banks.

  Now, 97% are interest-bearing credit. How did we get weaned off Cash for the real economy of the Nation?
  
  Why does everybody assume we can only get money from banks, at a cost, I wonder?
  
  What does Mr. Varley want to achieve while his and other banks 'sit' on credit?

  In my current state of understanding, we, the people, who care about this country and maybe even the Commonwealth and the rest of the world, can feel better by 'doing something' online, such as signing a petition. See http://tinyurl.com/666rwd.
  
  As a constitutional Sovereign, the Queen has passed it to the Prime Minister and I'm about to thank her for that.
  
  Maybe there is hope after all, if enough people understand without getting too depressed? Disillusionment is part of 'waking up'. In my experience it gets me depressed first, but then my fighting spirit kicks in.

• Can Darling kickstart lending? 9:00pm on 21 Nov 2008 The similarities between the UK and US economy are frightening indeed. Thank You for pointing them out, Robert!
  
  What do they have in common? Let me count the ways:
  
  1. continuous growth of National Debt
  
  2. continuous growth of the money supply
  
  3. continuous growth of Credit supplied by banks
  
  4. continuous decrease of Cash in the money supply - aka M0 or not-interest bearing (NIB) share of the money supply - created by the State
  
  5. continuous increase in the power of banks and financial institutions
  
  6. continuous decrease of the power of politicians and political parties
  
  7. excesses in wealth
  
  8. excessive overindebtedness, repossessions and bankruptcies
  
  9. increasing growth of the gap between having too much and having too little
  
  10. virtually complete ignorance about the privilege and monopoly of the creation of a national currency, i.e. money
  
  11. widespread lack of understanding and willingness to redress the imbalance between the power of the City (Wall Street) and the power of Wesminster (Main Street)
  
  12. the lack of a political avenue to redress these imbalances.
  
  What can we do? Our human rights lawyer advised us to "go for parliamentary scrutiny via the Treasury Select Committee" which can be seen on http://tinyurl.com/666rwd.

• New world financial order. What would your plan be? 05:44am on 10 Nov 2008 Dear Mr Mason
  
  CONGRATULATIONS to your Frontline event that led me to your fascinating blog. As a mathematician and system analyst who started her life at CERN in Geneva, I have organised the "Forum for Stable Currencies" at the House of Lords since 1998.

  Based on that experience, my bullet points are:
  
  1. Journalists as well as politicians need to learn to follow the money just as everybody else: who creates Stirling? who creates dollars? How many? For whom? On what terms and conditions? How have they obtained this privilege and monopoly? Why do people seem to think that the Government's money is "taxpayers' money"?
  
  2. Once people know that there are 2 kinds of money, Cash (created by states) and Credit (created by banks), then there could be ways of monitoring the ratio.
  This is the essence of our online petition "Stop the Cash Crumble to Equalize the Credit Crunch" on [Unsuitable/Broken URL removed by Moderator] which asks the Treasury Select Committee to investigate this issue.
  
  3. While politicians and journalists are clue- and powerless, the "Crash" is not a chance event. It is designed by unelected and unaccountable people who always have more money and thus more control. Why should they care whether banks go down as long as they achieve what they want?
  
  4. Talking, writing, blogging and videoing about the crisis won't make a difference. Making significant measures accessible and transparent would:
  
  -- the share of a Government's income in taxation and in borrowings
  -- the Cash : Credit ratio in the supply of a national currency
  -- the national debt per person
  -- the national income per person
  -- CO2 emissions per person.
  
  5. Convene a meeting with Central Bankers and the Bank of International Settlements and hold them to account by publishing key statistical indicators not only short, but also long term, e.g. in the UK, the Cash share has gone down from 48% after WWII to 3% now. But where is this published? We are bombarded by big numbers instead. But one-off payments are not nearly as important as trends.
  
  Good luck with following the money by following who issues national currencies!
