24 hours with Ubuntu 5:58pm on 24 Oct 2009 The hard drive on my 12 year old autistic daughter's XP computer was on the way out so I took a hard drive from a redundant computer as a temporary replacement. I decided to try Ubuntu as the operating system so I burned a disc and left it sitting next to my XP machine until I time to do the installation. I came back one day to find she had installed Ubuntu as a dual boot option on my machine! She has been using computers since was a toddler but I did not realise how much she had picked up.

The Ubuntu instalation on her own computer was a success so I bought a new PC with no operating system and set it up wih Ubuntu. I downloaded a program that let her perform her favourite computer activity, downloading YouTube videos. Sometime I will set up a virtual Windows machine to let her play some of her games, but at the moment I hardly get a look in on the computer.

Me and my three brothers had roughly similar tastes in music so we frequently taped each others records. As has been mentioned in other posts this system depended on someone buying the LP in the first place.
Is your granny a gamer? 9:53pm on 03 Nov 2008 I would point out that at the UNISON Retired Members Conference last month a motion was passed regarding the calculation of a Pensioners Price Index for linking retail prices to the Old Age Pension. The original motion asked for the removal of some items from the government's Price Index on the basis that they were not relevant to pensioners' shopping. An amendment to include video games in the pensioners' shopping was passed unanimously on the basis that many pensioners enjoy playing these games. I understand the point you are making but how many pensioners have you surveyed?
