A history day? 08:25am on 06 Nov 2008 I do not know what kind of president he will be. He faces tough challenges ahead, beyond just trying to fix the problems America faces, he now has to live up to the expectations that the world and the american public has for him.
if you think about it practically, his challenges starts from the white house, even if he is president it does not mean that he will be able to carry out his decisions smoothly, not when having an African- american as a president is still a reality that the older generations of America is trying to accept. The white house is not filled with the idealistic youths that played a major role in getting Obama elected nor is it filled with a significant number of African Americans who threw their weight behind him. In essence, whatever support he has enjoyed thus far will not follow him into the White house.
America's fear of big government 01:08am on 04 Nov 2008 you know what...'socialist' isn't a dirty word and 'liberal' doesn't mean that you can let someone die because they are unable to work due to their age or an illnesses of sorts. America needs to take responsibility for its actions and its people. by choosing to help those in need is not 'socialist'. you want to know why the American economy is crumbling ?look at the infrastructure of your country. By claiming to be liberal, the country has only paid attention to those who are well off and has ignored those who are in need. If the government checks are given to those who do not use it to save pull themselves back up, then the government will simply have to look into the loopholes present in the system. Being paranoid of things you don't understand doesn't make you smarter and being unable to take a risk of adopting something new doesn't make you wiser... If America wants to get out of their economic woes then buck up, stop being so complacent , stop being so paranoid over other governing system when yours has so obviously failed.
America's fear of big government 00:51am on 04 Nov 2008 why on earth are Americans so afraid of the term 'socialist state?' . Take a look at the history textbooks, almost all the major wars and all the debt that America has undergone up till now has occurred under the term of a republican president. It seems to me that every republican president seems to be stuck in the world war two mindset that a war would boost the economy. Right...I rather have a slightly socialist economy then see countless of young men die every time a republican takes the white house.
Too 'European' 2:44pm on 03 Nov 2008 I honestly feel that Americans need to be a little more open minded? what is wrong with being european?( the european economy is doing better than the American economy as of now.) so maybe America need to adopt some of the European policies to help the economy. Why the strong insistence that America has to be different from Europe?
To grow is to learn from others.
