So if the most important post was finance and trade, especially to British/ City of London interests, why did not the British representative (one Gordon Brown, aka The Prime Minister)keep his powder dry and lobby intensively for a British representative there, why waste time trying to install Mr Flash as El Presidente, and then Mandelson, Miliband and Hoon and finally fourth choice Lady Ashton as High Representative for Foreign Affairs?

Rather than your supposition, it seems to me that Hague got it absolutely right:

"William Hague, the shadow foreign secretary, said Mr Barnier was a “serious concern” and a threat to “the economic issues that affect Britain the most”. He previously called for Britain to pursue one of three major economic post and accused the government of pursuing the “wrong priority”.
“Our French partners have a different view on market issues that touch on Britain’s vital economic interests,” he said. “Now that Britain will no longer have an EU Commissioner with a major economic brief it will be vital that the British Government, whichever party is in power, engages closely with the Commission to ensure that it keeps to a pro-growth agenda.”
On Friday, French diplomats suggested Mr Brown had agreed to back Michel Barnier for the job in a “quid pro quo” deal for Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, accepting Lady Ashton. Downing Street categorically denied any such deal had been done."

So what did YOU do about it, except for posting your usual self-congratulatory nonsense on here? Posting to people who you obviously hold in contempt?

What did YOU do to stop the French from obtaining arguably the most important new post, Commissioner for the internal market? Oh, you blamed William Hague, didn't you, rather than those actually in a position to affect the outcome, Brown and Mandelson, who were too busy jockeying for position, trying to create their own legacies and alternative employment opportunities for after the next election.

If I recall correctly, it was Brown who attended the dinner meeting to decide on the candidates for the various posts. If the UK was outmanoeuvred by the French, then it is Brown and NewLabour's fault for being innocents abroad, no-one else's.

Sparklet, a report was jointly commissioned by the BBC Trust and Management in June 2007 called "From Seesaw To Wagon Wheel - Safeguarding Impartiality In The 21st Century".

It concluded that: "There may be now a broad scientific consensus that climate change is definitely happening and that it is al least predominantly man-made...the weight of evidence no longer justifies equal space being given to the opponents of the consensus."

According to the BBC Charter:

"6.The independence of the BBC

(1)The BBC shall be independent in all matters concerning the content of its output, the times and manner in which this is supplied, and in the management of its affairs."

Which doesn't quite fit in with a report jointly commissioned by the BBC Trust and Management in June 2007 called "From Seesaw To Wagon Wheel - Safeguarding Impartiality In The 21st Century".

So there you have it, the BBC has decided that AGW is the new orthodoxy, and no dissenting voices are to be tolerated.

I think you need to read my post again, we share the same viewpoint!

The list of AGW sceptics includes some who had previously sat on the IPCC panel with Al Gore. The list is of those who are NOT convinced about AGW.

This is a myth, but often quoted.

I think we do need to look at the results of scientific studies in the light of who funded the research. However, the real scandal is not in relation to government sponsored research into climate change, where there is little real dissent among people who understand the subject...
