Obama biffs bonuses 2:06pm on 04 Feb 2009 Bonuses are a lousy way of renumerating people, whatever the level in the company.

I have worked as a consultant to the financial services industry (investment banks) for over 20 years and the whold industry is bonus driven from top to bottom. I have come across situations on several occasions where bonuses act directly against a companies interest. The general problem is that issues that are very expensive in the long run are not raised early for fear that they will affect bonuses. Frequently we have seen computer systems go in on time (triggering bonuses) that are fault ridden and cost a company far more in the long run then they should.

We always try to resist bonus arrangements when agreeing contracts. Instead, we set a fee for a job and do the best we can to deliver. We always try to do the very best job that we can in the best interests of the client and do not need the promise of a bonus, or the threat of not getting a bonus, to motivate us.
Barclays is a bit sorry 09:31am on 18 Nov 2008 Good news! I finally get to signal my disapproval for this disgraceful course of action. The whole lot of them should go. I only hope the bigger shareholders have the stomach to take decisive action.
Who benefits from rate cut? 2:59pm on 06 Nov 2008 Who benefits? I do - by £312.50 per month. The reason is that I have a tracker mortgage at 0.5% above BOE base. The bank that gave me this deal a few years ago must be kicking themselves for not linking it to 3M LIBOR.

By the way, if any bank is now offering a deposit or treasury rate of 7% DO NOT LEND THEM YOUR MONEY. There is something seriously wrong at any bank as desperate fir funds as this.
Why Barclays prefers Abu Dhabi to GB 10:39am on 31 Oct 2008 It is outrageous that the new securities are only being offered to these middle eastern investors. The same deal should be offered to all existing shareholders.
