Cancer. Share what you know.... 6:53pm on 27 Jan 2009 Cancer is not necessarily the killer that everyone thinks it is, many people survive cancer and the health service in this country just gets better and better at caring for sufferers as the years go by, my mother deid in 1970 when I was 7, she had cancer of the throat through smoking, care back then was very poor, pain relief was about all that could be done, the same was true for my father when he died in 1980 of lung cancer but my wife survived colon cancer in 2008 and the care that she recieved at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital was unsurpassed, cancer isn't necessarily the death sentence that it used to be, a positive attitude can HELP in the fight against cancer if only the sufferer doesn't give up.
"Our little Paki friend" 7:12pm on 13 Jan 2009 Why is the BBC filtering out words that habe appeared in print on the PM Blog page from peoples comments? surely the BBC isn't practicing "NANNYISM"? god forbid, (I am allowed to use the word god aren't I?) I tried to use a word which is largely considered offensive among the Pakistani community but the profanity filter refused to allow it yet the BBC use it openly, I did not mean for it to be construde in an offensive context but purely in the vein of the relative article on the blog, am I wrong for doing this?
If the BBC wish to behave in this manner then perhaps they should close down this blog because the participants are not allowed to use the same vocabulary as the BBC.
"Our little Paki friend" 6:59pm on 13 Jan 2009 So a young royal says something a little obtuse over three years ago and Rupert Murdocks idiots at the News Of The World decide to stir up trouble with it, go to any town where there is an Asian community and the ordinary people will refer to the convenience stores operated buy this ethnic group as "P*** Shops", it isn't meant in an offensive way, I have to say that I have used the term myself and I am not a racist, I find racism abhorrent but I use the term "P***" almost as an endearment, to me the term refers to a person who originates from Paskistan, I have many Pakistani friends and they themselves have been known to use the term, they are not offended by it unless the term is used aggressively and then that is understandable isn't it.
The News Of The World have a lot to answer for by bringing this up, surely there are more newsworthy stories to print rather than trying to stir up racial hatred, perhaps the editor can be prosecuted for that, it is a crime, isn't it?
Jack Scott has died. 7:55pm on 13 Nov 2008 I remember Jack Scott rom many years ago, he was great, the forcast was always clear and easy to understand with him, many of todays forcasters could learn from his example, not that they don#t do a good job, the problem is that nowadays, it's all about technology, bring back the magnetic graphics, we could all have alaugh when they fail to stick, Jack had that problem a few times i'm sure.
He will be sadly missed.
US Elections...and the latest part of Shaun's US election Odyssey. 7:37pm on 04 Nov 2008 I sincerely hope that when I wake at 04.30 tomorrow with the world service on the radio that the talk is about president elect Barak Obama, I think that if John McCain wins I shall just give up and go and find a cave somewhere remote because a world with another version of George Bush is not a world I would wish to participate in. I know that the American people will do us proud and elect Obama, I can feel it in my water, lets hope that I am right.
Cushy. 7:49pm on 03 Nov 2008 It is just typical that a serving civil servant would make such a comment, I say civil servant because as a diplomat that is exactly what she is but in my mind she is no more than a freeloader enjoying a live of ease at the tax payers expense, if she thinks that her posting is cushy then she can't be doing the job properly because if she were doing the job properly, she wouldn't have too much time to spend on the beaches would she, perhaps she needs to be reassignen to somewhere less cushy, perhaps Goma or Baghdad or one of the other worldwide trouble spots, personally speaking I feel that the diplomatic service is overstaffed end too expensive, aside from the ambassador and his/her wife/husband and their children, the necessary intelligencia and maybe a consul, the rest of the staff could be made up of local people and only when their presence is required need the other officials be sent to the appropriate location to do their job and then return home.
The government of the United Kingdom is very wasteful and a great deal of waste is generated by the diplomatic service what with official dinners serving exspensive wines and brandies, this is one service that can and should be thinned out starting with the likes of the lady in question.
Is this car a work of art? 8:47pm on 29 Oct 2008 The Ferrari in the picture IS a work of art, truely a thing of beauty but personally speaking, it doesn't hold a candle to the 250GTO, the GTO is by far the prettiest car ever built and I don't think anyone will ever be able to top it but if anyone can, it will be Farrari.
Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross, Andrew Sachs and the BBC. 8:42pm on 29 Oct 2008 It seems to me that although Messrs Ross and Brand have been totally out of order, in the week after the offensive broadcast there were only a handfull of complaints and it wasn't until an artical in a Sunday paper that the torrent of complaints began to pour in to the BBC, 18000 to date I understand. It would appear to me that a majority of the plaintifs on this occasion did not actually hear the broadcast or if they did, they were not offended by it at the time otherwise they would have complained at the time, no, it would appear that with all the media coverage of this event since Monday morning, most of the plaintifs have merely jumped on the bandwagon, I don't condone for one minute what these two so called presenters have done and I feel for Andrew Sachs and his family, quite rightly these two need to be brought to task, Russel Brand has now resigned and Johnathan Ross should do so also or be sacked but please, stop jumping on the bandwagon, it isn't fasionable to complain in this way is it?, the BBC have been slower than a sloth to respond to this event but they will eventually deal with it and hopefully they will do the right thing but in the mean time, the matter is in hand and we should leave it be. I personally have a grievence against Danny Baker after he insulted me on a live radio program back in 1994 but I didn't complain, I just stopped listening to his program and decided that in my opinion he is a total pillock, okay I am not a much loved celebrity such as Andrew Sachs but I still felt wronged at the time, if I had complained, would there have been such an uproar, I think not, it is only due to the celebrity of the victim that this has gone this far, let the BBC deal with it and if they can't then let OFCOM, lets have an end to all this hysteria, the BBC has a code of conduct, let that be enforced.
