Germany loses revs 6:14pm on 22 Nov 2008 We live in a capitalist society, a world-wide society.

There are three types of unstable system: those that
explode, those that implode and those that oscillate.
Capitalism is the third kind.

We have just had the slump of the never-ending cycle
of capitalism (boom--crisis--slump--depression) and we
are now entering depression (the modern word recession
is just intended to stop people from being pessimistic).
We will come out eventually.

Because capitalism is an unstable system, it cannot be
controlled. No amount of infrastructure rebuild can get
an economy out of recession. Only when the depression/
recession has run its course will the next boom begin.
Morphing America? 5:24pm on 06 Nov 2008 #4 Yes, I agree that the working class in Europe tend,
but it is only a tendency, there are many exceptions,
to vote for centre-left or left-wing parties, whereas
just about everyone in the US vote conservative. Even
the Democrats are conservative from the European
point of view.

The change that Obama stands for is not a defining
change it seems to me. After all, it will still be capitalism, with exploitation of the working class (the middle class in the US are the working class in my
opinion---after all, they all have to work. So the world
will still have rich and poor, well-shod and deprived.

The biggest problem facing the US working class is the
fact that so many jobs have been transferred to China
and India. Yes, there are jobs, but not paying as well
and not providing as clear a career path. How one gets to the upper echelons a company without the
base jobs, I do not know. The management can
outsource jobs, but it then prevents people from
coming to management via the company.

Unlike other faiths, the Jews are a people. Catholics
are not a people: they come from many peoples. The
jewish religion is upheld only by jews as a people.
