How Mosley lost F1 power battle 11:51am on 25 Jun 2009 Will this be the first comment?

This could have been an absolute disaster for the sport but thankfully the whole mess has been sorted out sooner rather than later. I agree that this is indeed a big victory for the teams but it was really the only way that an agreement could have been reached. Mosley's governing style would always bring about his downfall, it was inly a question of when. The way himself and Ecclestone treated the teams and the sport it was inevitable they would revolt at some stage, and only once they did did the two dictators realise just how powerful and valuable to F1 they are.

In the end it probably is good news for the sport and the fans in particular, but at the same time is it not a bit dangerous to have a sport run and governed by the teams that take part in it? They could adjust the rules any way they wanted to suit themselves, don't know if it'll happen in this case though.
Storm clouds gather over F1 6:27pm on 04 Jun 2009 Hmm this whole situation is rather sad and worrying isn't it? Personally I think if any of the teams had the stones then they should get rid of Mosley or Ecclestone, preferably both or else set up some sort of new championship to show that they won't be kicked around anymore: Lord knows they have been for long enough. The only drawback is how difficult it will be to get rid of the entrenched pair at the top of FOM. If some new championship is set up it will be a sad day in the history of motorsport and F1 but it may be the wake-up call that is needed.

"We have the F1 championship. We draw up the rules for that, we have been doing that for 60 years and we will continue doing so." Typical Mosley, no-one likes him and he doesn't care. He may well go ahead and ruin his beloved cash-cow oops I mean sport (cough) by being so pig-headed. Up FOTA!
Hiddink's sweet smell of success 6:16pm on 09 Apr 2009 liverpoor you have been fooled by the phrase "away goals count double" it's really a bit of a lie. Away goals don't actually count as two goals: if the aggregate scores finish level, whichever team has scored more away goals will win. So in the case you have presented Chelsea would win 6-5 on aggregate. The only way there can be a penalty shoot-out is if the scores are the same in both legs i.e. 3-1 to Liverpool next Tuesday.
Hiddink's sweet smell of success 5:38pm on 09 Apr 2009 First of all I'd just like to say how much I've enjoyed reading some of the posts on here since they've mostly been in good spirits and made plenty of good points. A lot of Liverpool fans have come out and held their hands up and said they were beaten by the better performance on the night, which is certainly true.

I agree with a lot of what has been said about the zonal marking debate. This system has worked time and again for Benítez and Liverpool over the past few years so why should he change it? Does anyone call for Arsenal to stop passing-and-moving after they're beaten by a lower-placed team who play aggressively and directly e.g. Stoke or Bolton? No, it's the manager's style and he's not likely to throw his favourite tactics out the window in a hurry. The same applies here. Mauricio Pellegrino (Rafa's assistant) came out last night and said something along the lines of, "criticise the players, not the system". These comments got a hammering on RTÉ but I think he's right. Both of the goals were caused by mistakes from the players and not particularly faults with the system - they either were stuck on their heels or were sucked under the ball leaving Ivanovic with two free headers. The zonal system is never praised when it works i.e. most of the time but when it goes wrong all of a sudden it has to go! Talk about not making sense . . .

Th one thing I noticed most watching the game last night (apart from the sickening feeling of dread in the last fifteen minutes) was that whenever Chelsea got the ball in the first half they looked dangerous. You could sense a confidence and skill about them that made me nervous, the sort of feeling that I hadn't experienced since the first five minutes of the home game against Man. U earlier in the season. That day it was Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov who combined to cut through our defence at will and when they scored early on I thought it could go on to be a massacre. Luckily we fought back to win 2-1 but the same thing went on last night: both of Ivanovic's goals left me thinking "That had been coming". I doubt this is the start of a collapse in our defence but it is worrying enough. Hopefully Blackburn will be characteristically inept on Saturday, that game is most certainly MASSIVE now.

Finally, I know Dossena scored twice in a week and hit the bar twice against Fulham but for Rafa to bring him on last night when he did was utter madness. He really must have had a gut feeling or been impressed with him in training or something but it really didn't work. Aurelio is a far better crosser, passer and all-round player than Dossena could ever be on current form. I hope h either improves by a mile during the summer or we get in better calibre players.

I live in hope for the second leg but I fear the tie is indeed dead. That's not to say it's a foregone conclusion however you never know with Liverpool!
My Australian Grand Prix moments 5:46pm on 31 Mar 2009 Since I live outside the UK I'm very much looking forward to the latest video, pity we can't see a lot of the content that's put up here. Murray is an F1 legend and I can't wait to hear his voice again! Come on the BBC! You're doing a bang-up job of bringing the sport back to life . . .
