Surely on the day the findings of the AWC are published - this also deserves front page headlines.

re: the recent Yougov poll.
they forgot to weight for Welsh Language ability. In a poll on further powers, as you all realise, a serious oversight.

Yougov, not steeped in Welsh Politics can possibly be forgiven.

BUT

This poll was set up, organised and analysed by two high profile Academics who specialise in Welsh affairs, as part of the "More Powers" campaign - it is beyond belief that they were not aware of the bias this omission would cause.

The conclusions has to be this is monumental incompetence
or
A deliberate attempt to mislead

Perhaps Richard Wyn Jones from the Wales Governance Centre at Cardiff University and Roger Scully from Aberystwyth University who are reported as Doing the analysing, could help!!!

Start with Dewi's post about #68 and on thro to #85.

It is a fascinating subject, there is considerable controversy, and debate.
As you say Dan we were not there, one can only interpreted the evidence.

The 4th century AD arrival of the Irish Deisi tribe (some 5,000 souls) was certainly peaceful, their landings at Fishguard and the Gower may have been prearranged and appears to have been with agreement.
The earlier arrival of the Celts coincides with the building of inland hill forts and certainly the earliest written records describe bloody raids sometimes but not always repulsed.

I have a problem with the earlier (4th C BC) Celtic incursions, current thinking is that there was no Celtic invasion.
Celtic Culture spread through sections of the indigenous population (like a religion) how it was introduced is not clear, but the evidence from the spread of fortifications is that there was much fighting, over territory, possessions, or ideology is a question.
Prior to the arrival of the Celts what we call Wales seems to have been peaceful.

However the Celtic language you refer to as Welsh, is actually relatively modern, it evolved from the early Brythonic branch of British, around the 6th century AD and modern Welsh developed about 1180, some time after the Norman invasion.
The language even today has variety - a North Walian will have difficulty communicating with a South Walian!

I now understand the position.

However agree with Stony - It is difficult to believe that if proper representation had been made for you to pay your respects it would have been refused!

There is little in your post I can support - while you are right about the Windscale and Chernobal failures - virtually every thing you say is inaccurate, and demonstrably so.

The technologies and operating procedures that led to the Windscale and Chernobyl tragedies are no longer used.
With modern plant, even with deliberate intervention, catastrophic failure has an extremely low probability.

Unlike the old Gas Cooled Reactors, modern plant is designed to be decommisioned cheaply with full safe removal and recovery of radiated material.

Security of fuel supply is assured - in the event of political uncertainty, breeder reactors and/or radioactive waste reprocessing can secure our fuel supply.

There are several proven safe disposal routes for waste, with reprocessing a realistic option.

Terrorism is an issue - but it will be whether or not we go Nuclear, fissile material is not just used in the UK but world wide.
In fact we can probably store it more safely here than anywhere.
Use of fissile material as weapons is a possibility - using nitrogen fertiliser is cheaper easier and effective, - probably does not have the same propoganda value.

Your concerns over Nuclear accidents are unfounded. Today's technology ensures such an event would be small scale and very unlikely. Do some research!!! Ask experts not Greens!!

Your comment power transmission problems with large stations, better solutions with local smaller stations. demonstrates a lack of knowledge.
The Tory party in the "Quality of Life" study some years ago were advocating this approach, but were quickly convinced by experts that it was unworkable.
Whatever power generation system is chosen a National Grid is needed to distribute and provide alternative routes in the event of failure.

The French Nuclear program demonstrates that not only is Nuclear Power safe, but cheap and efficient.
It will take 8 years to build and commission a nuclear power station,and we simply do not have the experts, industrial capacity, or resources to build more than one or two at a time.
Nor can we economically buy in - the world is rapidly going nuclear - China has plans for 100 stations on line before 2015.

Thanks to the Greens, and short sighted politics, by 2015 the UK will have a serious generating capacity shortfall.
Blair & Browns legacy will be that the lights will start to go out.

Do some sums - the energy efficiency saving approach you suggest will only scratch the surface.
We need replacement generating capacity urgently, and whether you like it or not Nuclear is the fastest, safest, and cheapest way to achieve that.

The arguments have been thoroughly researched and the Green position exposed as nonsense - we don't have time to waste prevaricating on this.
The Interview 6:42pm on 11 Nov 2009 Not a fan of Rod Davies - but how refreshing on AM/PM today to have a different view from the Plaid/BBC Cymru perspective.

As to the interviews - I got little out of it, no substance just waffle.

While don't think any of them have what we need;
Hart didn't have depth, or approachable,- bit aggressive?
Jones confirmed my opinion, a suit with nothing in it,
Unfortunately I missed Lewis, will have to catch up later.

A worry is none of them (in fact no AM) seem to accept there is growing divisions in Welsh society, or that it needs to be addressed.
Going nuclear 6:10pm on 11 Nov 2009 The ready availability of cheap energy is what drives our civilisation.

For many reasons, not just climate change, we need a power source that is going to sustain us for the next 40 to 100 years, until fully renewable supplies or fusion can be developed and deployed.
Our energy demand is and will continue to rise - its the only way we can survive and maintain our population.
Wind cannot do it alone, it is possible that renewables never can.

To maintain the quality of life, for even the poorest person in the UK, currently available from cheap energy at the flick of a switch, would need 100 to 200 full time slaves to replicate.

Nuclear is the bridge - the Greens and CND with the black propoganda in the 80's have left us a legacy that is going to be difficult to deal with.

The Anti's have no real science, safety, or engineering expertise objections - France happily and safely runs on Nuclear power, in fact we import many megawatt's from them daily.

The problem is fear engendered by propoganda, emotion and political spin. - time to get real!!
If you become leader ... 5:50pm on 11 Nov 2009 Worth remembering the word "Welsh" comes from the Old English Wēlisc, Wǣlisc; related to "wealh" foreigner.
While the name "Cymru" is likely derived from a (reconstructed) Brythonic word Combroges/Combrogos/Combrogi meaning "compatriots".

Interesting - seems we have a bunch of "foreign compatriots" trying to organise our lives.

The Celts are late arrivals here - Dan's comment at #24;
we have accepted the people of South Pembrokeshire into Wales
Is laughable nonsense.

The indigenous residents of Pembrokeshire (like many other communities in the south and East) have spent the last several thousand years repulsing raiding Celtic tribes, who since they arrived around the 4th century BC have been nothing but a Bl**dy nuisence.

The fabricated culture they are trying to spread from their small isolated communities has little to do with the living culture of today's Wales, and even less with the real ancient heritage of our country.

Dewi you are probably right - no National Daily newspaper in the UK would waste time or paper on them.

The media I was referring to was Radio and Television - especially bias on BBC Wales.

It details far more comprehensively than I can what we the average English speaking Welsh are facing.
Remember I and my ancestors are Pembrokeshire south of the Lansker - like many other parts of Wales the Celtic tongue is not part of our heritage!

We have no interest in what language you speak, whether you enjoy poetry or music, how you choose to educate your children, or in fact what your politics are. - we have no interest in interfering with your way of life - that is your business!!

We just want to get on with our own lives - live and celebrate our own culture. - We object to and an aggressive well organised minority trying to force their language and culture on us.

Correct Plaid do not have a vote - but they do control of much of the media, and browbeat AM's - follow the Plaid line or be damned as anti Welsh - hence they will influence the outcome.
