Making mileage out of Tory toffs 6:02pm on 02 Dec 2009 Not sure there is much mileage in this apart from perhaps propping up the core Labour vote.

The voters in the key marginal constituencies are well aware of the toffs int he Labour party. Harriet Harman and Ed Balls two examples of toffs.

In addition the fact that the most powerful person in the cabinet, one Lord Mandelson, highlights how Labour is clearly a party where unelected toffs rule.
Attempting to whip up support for AV 5:59pm on 02 Dec 2009 Labour know they will be removed from government under the First Past the Post system of voting.

So, they are desperately trying to find a way to cling onto power. They think this is the way.

There should be more transparency. The Iron Lady of Latvia should have been listened to. The heads of government should publicly vote for declared candidates. There should be no cloak and dagger secret meetings to decide these EU representatives.

However, this morning it is the complete reverse. Kelly's intervention was key; Brown has been exposed as not wanting to deal with the expenses issue.
Not the Queen's Speech 10:39am on 18 Nov 2009 Quite correct Nick. This Queen's Speech is all about staying in power. They have no idea how to move the country forward. They just do not want to relinquish power.

John Major's idea is extremely good. To be honest the payroll vote and patronage has become bloated under Labour. Even worse are the number of blatant Labours supporting political appointees Brown & Blair have made to quangos and agencies, such as Trevor Phillips.

A reduction in the number of MPs should also be brought into this discussion. Each Parliamentary seat should have the same number of voters.

A fixed term Parliament would fit in nicely with a 4 or 5 year programme too.
Miliband's future 'in UK politics' 10:36pm on 09 Nov 2009 Miliband clearly made his decision because he can sniff a chance of becoming PM before the next election.

He would not want to be the Labour leader immediately after the defeat of Gordon in 2010 - look at Hague, Foot, Kinnock and IDS. Post disaster elections are not a very good time to take over leadership.
