Why cars are greener than buses (maybe) 12:11pm on 21 Nov 2009 My carbon footprint is absolutely fine. It comes from the way of life passed down to my by my parents and solidly supported to continue by my government and the world of commerce around me.
We civilised people are so lucky. Others only know what a footprint is while all animal species, other than man, have no carbon footprint what so ever. The poor devils.
More of those yummy baked-beans please.
First draft of UK economic history 3:42pm on 23 Oct 2009 Funny enough only the other day I wrote to someone about trusting figures from Britain. Simply one cannot! Every old gaffer and his dog can give better predictions and forecasts. He doesn't need 'the signs' or 'the analyses'. That's just techno-hype. It comes from "who believes us" and of "what we do". Unfortunately this and previous Governments have been selling the lead off our roof for years and all we're left with is some tacky mineral-felt to see us through a darned tough winter. Again metaphorically speaking, it will be the reserve and the grit of the 'coal-face workers' that will drag the UK through, just as they have always done. Get your coat Brown and go home!
A sombre warning 9:53pm on 20 Oct 2009 I'm having a problem with all this. For me a bank is there to provide a utility service, rather like water, gas and electricity. But Pandora's Box had been opened, at least by Thatcher, and so now we have any tom, dick and harry competing with any dick, harry and tom. Nothing ever in moderation of course, excessive competition demands excessive risks. Result? The cheapest vacuum-surviving, law-breaking (but all laws are removed) Amoeba wins!
We can now certainly forget regulation because the resultant complex array of 'products' and their complex inner-structures means that we have a 'loop-hole at every neural-node'. It will not be possible to blame the banks next time - and they know it!
Asset sale: Deja vu? 4:08pm on 12 Oct 2009 Selling student loans was mentioned too. A friend asked me "how do you sell student loans?". I think he has to ask the sub-primes markets that one... once more round the carousel please, guv'.
And 'deja vu' indeed it is, Stephanie. Being 63 I've seen all this nonsense before. BBC moderators rejected my reply to "how would you save energy?" which was "... by burning next year's ballot papers!"
Ah well, perhaps we shoud sell the students? Slaves are going to be the ONLY trade in the UK soon!

UK Gov says "having paid a lot into the biometric passport system..."
Uh? I seem to remember being shafted with a price difference one could by a hi-fi with let alone a wire coil and plastic film! We're paying for it!!! Our rip-off Euro-style driving licences needs that stupid A4 paper when we hire a car! Are any of us sane???
In Germany an ID card can be shown to a town hall say, or pension offices, a police station, it's even enough when flying within Europe, even to/from the UK. I always have to bristle with NI card, licence, passport, birth certificate, etc... you name it!!!
We've paid for a lot of waffler's rubbish in the UK and so I reckon a UK ID card would be simply blank with the phrase "just a minute luv while we search for your records" printed on it. NO! Categorically NO! I don't want to see a UK ID card. It wouldn't be enough would it.
I don't want this or any future British government to spend a penny on anything because it will waste ten in doing so. I wish the British public could chuck this Dickensian establishment out and start again.
QE lives on... 11:54am on 27 Aug 2009 Has someone noticed the Pound gently sliding down against the Dollar these past few days? Someone's about to buy! Loads!! Create the Pound rush and then sell. Wait for the spike! Despite all the Jiggery-Pocker stuff we're still very much subjected to the whims of a few rich people. Money is the only commodity!
What RBS's results say about QE 11:04pm on 24 Aug 2009 Just read something about a load of accountants think the recession is coming to an end. Some people just can't cope in the real world can they! This news-spin has to be 'invented' now to nail the pound's gentle slide against the Euro. Germany's firing up it's production, of course not for exports, not yet, but certainly for it's domestic markets - life goes on doesn't it! and umpteen road improvement schemes under way, helps keep the unemployment down a bit. Britain can't do any of these things since it gave all it's money away to Banks - well, what manufacturing could it hand it to anyway?... positive growth in 3rd qtr eh? hmmm, don't know the year though yet do we? Sorry to be a killjoy, old sport.
Rebuilding the foundations of finance 2:29pm on 17 Jun 2009 Is this government really Labour? Or is it a well-camouflaged alien force set out to dissolve Earth having finally found its weak-spot, Britain?
The system that is not considered for changing (and therefore has no chance of evolving into something better) will stay "as is" and so the aliens will get a second chance and probably then succeed.

Similarly, Germany doesn't want to ever be in the position again of having to print billion (Milliarden) Mark notes like in 1923... unfortunately it's a lot closer to Europe than Canada is.

I just hope Canada says to all the other G20 members "told you so"..

Talk is cheap 5:21pm on 14 Mar 2009 Scientists try to probe the abstract and bring it into reality.
The financial whizz-kids (lying'tists) have achieved the opposite - and it's all fallen back to Earth.
Ms Flanders is quite right - "talk is cheap". A plentiful unending supply of it.
I've offered most of my savings to a young friend to close a gap on some borrowing she needs to buy a flat. She's gone away to think about it. It's been a straight forward, simple discussion, took 10 minutes, wife happily agrees also. Nothing abstract, straightforward. I've declined from believing in Uncle Sam and his 7 dwarfs. There's our local community to protect.
