If you were a member of the Labour Party, you'd know that it was an absolute nonsense to say that Labour 'members' voted for the coalition.

It was the undemocratic Electoral College that gave Plaid its first taste of real power.

The Big If 9:50pm on 17 Nov 2009 Adam Price has obviously not read 'The Road to Wigan Pier', 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist' or any other novel from the English left-wing tradition. Had he done so, he would understand that exploitation of the poor was/is pretty much universal. Social class, not ethnicity, is at the core of the problem. Men crawled in obscene conditions underground for a pittance in England, too.

But, then, perhaps Mr. Price has an embargo on English literature as well as newspapers.

Parties, of course, and individuals in those parties, should be free to decide which side to support.

It is a damning indictment of Welsh democracy - and a poor indicator for the future - that all main political parties are taking the same line on this issue, notwithstanding the reservations of many grassroots members.

Lyn - it shows how far out of touch with real democracy you are when you seem to think that not only is it healthy for the entire Welsh Assembly establishment to be pushing for more powers for itself but that it is also fine to use taxpayers' hard-earned money to do so.

We do indeed want the Welsh Government to be neutral on this issue; it is up to the people of Wales to decide whether they want a full law-making parliament as a further step towards separation from the UK. The Government's job is to present a fair question to the people - not to make an unwilling Welsh public pay for a cynical propaganda campaign which, if successful, will enable WAG politicians and their hangers on to line their pockets at the expense of the hard-working people of Wales.

Nationalists should stop bandying around the word 'democracy'. They don't know what it means.

The students have done a very professional job. '9.1 Billion Reasons to Vote No' would be a superb slogan.

The Visit Wales spokesman said that this was all down to unfair English stereotyping of the Welsh. The comment about the coal tips was out of date but it's certainly true that thanks to the political class down the Bay and its obsession with Welsh identity - and its determination to ensure that it even pervades the school curriculum - racist hatred towards the English has increased.

To be honest, I don't know why they bothered to carry out the survey; if they dismiss the findings by blaming the English yet again, it's not as if they're going to learn anything from this or seek to change anything.

He claimed that the English feel that the language excludes them but that the Irish love it. As a Welsh English speaker, I have to say that I feel more as the English do. The Welsh language is being used as a tool to shape this new hostile, xenophobic Wales. It is being forced on people in the workplace and in schools, used as a sort of punishment for those who dare to live in Wales without being 'proper Welsh'.

What a grim, joyless, unwelcoming place this country has become.

Maybe I was a little over-emphatic in my suggestion that you are 'astoundingly' naive! The more you dig, though, the more corrupt and shamelessly undemocratic you perceive those who govern us to be. I certainly wouldn't trust any Assembly poll, just as I would struggle to give credence to any poll carried out by any government. Vested interest is a powerful force.

Your point about the tainting of an idea to the point that it becomes undebatable is excellent. If we want democracy to die, this is the way to go.
