Making banking boring 6:33pm on 02 Apr 2009 So it's all ok now? Miraculously the world will become a fairer place to live and people will care for each other. When are we going to wake up to reality? As long as we are chasing growth for growth's sake it will all end in tears-yet again-mine and the majority of the rest of the world I suspect.
G20: Road to nowhere 12:02pm on 02 Apr 2009 Please please please Robert, will you be the one to stand up at this ridiculous circus and tell everybody that the emperor has no clothes on. This whole G20 conference is 'fiddling whilst Rome-and the rest of the world burns'. As a contributor remarked earlier, why isn't being held in some out of the way airfield, with no pomp and circumstance-and croissants for journalists? Is it because it is making us feel as if something, anything, is being done to sort of this mess. Until the fundamental capitalist system is dismantled and greed is no longer used as a base for it's foundations, this world will destroy itself. And, it won't matter whether you live in the slums or in your second home in Tuscany.

Interesting response. I actually thought it was his job to report and, more importantly, interpret. The life experiences to which I refer are his getting out and really seeing first hand what is going on in the life of the 'common man'.
My comments regarding his radio delivery are bourne out of frustration and not a lack of empathy. Having said that, may be the past year of being unemployed has robbed me of this quality?

Gilts and innocence 5:16pm on 26 Mar 2009 I have long had my doubts about RP's impartiality, and to a certain extent, his grip on reality. I have been unemployed for nearly a year now and it is hard-not just financially, but emotionally. You reach a certain age and you have to think I have heard it and seen it all before, and we never learn-the rich keep getting richer and the poor poorer. It is the economic system we live under stupid-plain and simple. Just as aside, I know that RP may have the academic credentials to be the BBc's Business editor, but I seriously doubt that he has the life experiences. In my more 'conspiracy theory' moments I wonder whether his extremely irritating radio delivery is deliberate as I end up never listening to what he has to say, and turning the radio off.
Have just read 172 on yesterday's blog and my heart goes out to you-please don't give up caring, or those at the top will really have won.
