Season of good will extends to referees 1:22pm on 21 Dec 2008 Football is a game where one goal, if any, determines the outcome of most matches. 90 minutes of running around for one little thing to decide it. I think this is why it's such a reservoir of frustration and anger - that and it being played, watched, and administered by cavemen.

No goal should ever be wrongly ruled out for offside, or ruled in when not onside, simply because football should have some kind of technology.

No sport in the world has so many cameras giving you individual shots of each player, but then doesn't use that technology in the game. It doesn't use it for determination of facts, nor for disciplinary action. Even cricket can do it. But football doesn't. Football still seems to be in the 19th century, and there doesn't seem to be any sign of it catching up.

And if people suggest its use, then it becomes 'you can't replay every incident' and therefore you don't replay any incident, which is daft. No sport replays every incident, so why would football?

Until football sorts itself out it will just inspire detached amusement, or downright disgust for the behaviour it propagates.

What is the point of the rugby league World Cup? 12:52pm on 25 Oct 2008 Can't read all the comments - at least there's a lot, which means people aren't ignoring this.

I always enjoy blog commenters that say RL is like 15 robots... 15? Also people comparing RL World Cup to the World Series of Baseball, or the Baseball World Championship, where baseball already has run a professional World Classic with 16 countries - and no, the USA didn't win, nor even make the final.

This kind of dazzling knowledge moves me to comment as well.

I'm also not a northerner, the furthest north I've been in my life is London. I'm from Plymouth, and we play football, basketball, union, gridiron and league, and have done for a long time, because we take notice of the world and are open minded and see the value to human beings of sport - let's leave the small-mindedness to Hull FC and KR fans, or to self-opinionated sports blog commenters.

My personal little disappointment was the qualifying structure for Lebanon - beat Wales, but lost to Samoa - Scotland only had to beat Wales, and might not have beaten Samoa either.

I have also been disappointed with RL's lack of progress since 1995 when the gun went off, union sped away and RL stood still. But I'm confident that rational minds that care for the sport and good governance will lever this thing into movement. To RL fans - enjoy and be proud of your sport.

As for why, I think RL is much better for kids to play. Ironic that a lot of major RL players were forced to start with union - that's almost back to front.
Facebook - still in fashion. 00:53am on 11 Oct 2008 I've been using FB for about a year - largely because someone in work was on it all day when they should have been working. We eventually blocked FB during working hours. While that was annoying I'm grateful to them, because one of FB's advantages is that people use their real names, and so I managed to track down a person and message them, and got back into contact with his sister, whom I hadn't seen in 15 years. We're now rekindling a relationship together after he sent me her phone number.

I too am a bit annoyed by the layout change, but can see that it is a compromise of more mess on the 'wall' for less mess overall. I tend just to follow the feeds on the home page. I've hooked up with a lot of old acquaintances and friends, and this is a result of it not being just the jocks at the uni.
