Citi and manic Monday 6:35pm on 24 Nov 2008 Quite clever that give away vat and claw back tax on Nat ins and IT over £100/150k.

If no one is moved to buy anything then the VAT gimmick is limited in cost to current (ie reduced spending). However the yield from the NI and IT hikes is pretty much assured.

Of course the VAT thing means we are "seen" to be doing the right thing.

Loved the Green bit which sounded so plausible and then bottling out of the Car Tax hike (which was one of the major non-banking factors in the recession as it pretty much killed of anybody's ability to sell their old car and buy a new one!)

All good stuff from the "you couldn't make it up" department.

Sadly I act as Financial director.

My phone of choice Nokia E51 wifi bt, 3g, and I can talk to people.

The trouble is far to many people feel they are Captain Kirk and can "beam me up Scotty" on a video phone........................
Rothschild "won't back down" 9:04pm on 21 Oct 2008 I am assuming that th e structure of your blog is that the linkage between this political story and some critical business story will be cleverly exposed tomorrow. Or is it the link to the new social order commented on at the w/e?

It might have been nice to hit on how the govt is reinventing Train to Gain as actually being accessible to businesses - the money wasted on advertising it so far would probably have funded a small bank recovery!

Great "A" Level question on the Sociology paper for this year. But I bet the essays will read a little different to Roberts'.

If you are going to recover from an addiction you have to acknowledge the problem. There seems little acknowledgment from anyone at any practical level that credit is an addiction. The papers are full of car adverts with easy credit tag lines, The white good sales are similar. The credit cards are promoting their business at full steam ahead.

So the finance business still seem to be trying to sell credit. Not to business or house buyers ( because they have maxxed on them). No, they are moving to the next target Oh, and if their is a bit of collateral (sic) damage on the way does it matter?

So no, not really a fairer society. If you are on the lower or middle rungs of the ladder you are still stuffed with debt repayment and now probably unemployment but if you are balancing on the top of the ladder you can swing over to another ladder without dropping too far.
A global solution needed 9:57pm on 10 Oct 2008 Isn't the answer quite simple? All the tracker funds switch off their computer modeling programmes and shoot from the hip?
