And yes, in answer to some of your queries, I am following the McCain campaign, and we met Jason outside a McCain rally. Which is why I felt we could put him in this blog.

I don't think putting this interview here "displays BBC bias". It's just an interesting interview. One man's opinions which struck me as a little bit different, and therefore worthy of discussion. Please don't assume you know my personal political opinions.

Defiant in Defiance? 4:35pm on 30 Oct 2008 On the senior citizen, he was not unintelligent. I wonder if he just inhabits a very different world from many in this country. I suppose a "few months ago" might mean "until early this year", which sounds plausible. But even so, we know a lot of people do not watch television news, do not read national newspapers, and do not use the internet in parts of the 'States. Added to which Barack Obama is - for some of his generation - a very different "face" of this country. As another senior citizen told me at the rally, "Obama isn't un-American, it's just John McCain is the true American." ie: he identifies with McCain more.

McCain loses it 04:11am on 24 Oct 2008 booloohoom - I'm not sure if there has been a BBC story about Obama and his verbal slip ups. I'd have to check, but I haven't seen one. To be honest my blog is not meant to be about slip ups in general - they can and do happen to all politicians. It's about how I find it strange that as he gets to the key part of his speech, Senator McCain loses his way because the teleprompter goes down. It is my personal opinion that he shouldn't need a teleprompter for this bit. For long complex parts of the rest of the speech perhaps, but not the end, the crowd-pleaser, surely? He's slipped up a number of times now, and this is an end to the speech that never changes. I have heard it day in day out for over a week now.
Taking the temperature in Florida 00:35am on 20 Oct 2008 You're all absolutely right to pick me up on the continent/country comment. bhapiorelse is right - I was trying to convey a point about the size and diversity of the USA, not make a geo-political comment. I probably should have written "like a continent" etc, or dropped the idea at all. Point taken, wrists slapped, thanks. And of course I wasn't trying to demean Canada and Mexico - but I understand why you might feel sore about this north or south of the border.
