0% credit cards: Do you read the small print? 00:52am on 16 Oct 2008 Took the advice given in a money advice programme that Adrian used to host (sorry can't remember the name of it) and transfer my balance to a new credit card when the interest free period is up - I always say I don't want the insurance but it does not stop them adding it to my account and I always end up making a phone call to tell them off and demand a refund and get all interest charges deducted.
The thing that also gets hidden in the small print is that they charge you a percentage of the amount you wish to transfer so they get extra money from you anyway.

Branson, Clarke & Robinson on economy crisis 01:02am on 10 Oct 2008 "We all know about the ?50,000 compensation scheme for savings, but how is this made up i.e. ISA, Bonds and savings.
If all these are in the same building society are they added together to allow being covered by the scheme."

If you have a joint account then both named account holders will benefit, single account holders get 1 payment per company - so if you have accounts with 2 banks but they are owned by 1 company you only get 1 payment.
Branson, Clarke & Robinson on economy crisis 01:00am on 10 Oct 2008 I think its disgusting that the entire world's monetary system is in freefall all because of George Bush and his wars for oil - why do things have to be bought and sold in US dollars when they're nothing to do with the US?

One other thing why the heck have all these UK Councils and Police forces put their money into a foreign bank? I don't think the government wouldn't be so concerned & causing this stink with Iceland if it was just ordinary Joe Publics money?

Is shoplifting a joke? 00:48am on 10 Oct 2008 Shoplifting is no joke they steal and the price goes up for the rest of us to cover the shops losses.

I know several junkies whos lives revolve around stealing to pay for their next fix, they get a couple of months in lock up, which they consider a holiday, but as soon as they're released they're back stealing again.
Would you drive on biodiesel? 4:42pm on 09 Oct 2008 A mechanic told me recently that there are 1000's of people running their cars on chip fat oil, our local supermarket has doubled the price on the big 3 litre bottles of oil and reduced the amount that any 1 person can buy - tightwad Tescos strikes again.

Aparrently you need to change the fuel filter every 3000miles and can run a mix of 30% veg oil to diesel in the winter to up to 100% veg oil in the warmer months.
Debt after death 4:19pm on 09 Oct 2008 My father died in April 08, he had sorted out all the finances so my Mum wouldn't have to worry about anything, all the money went into one place the Nationwide as we've all been customers of theirs for years.

We sent all the right letters off with proper death certificates and I also made extra phone calls to cancel the internet with Virgin Media.

Both the Nationwide & Virgin Media have done nothing but make my Mum's life even more of a misery and she is now on medication for severe depression.

Nationwide made the mistake of inputting that it was my MUM that died, froze all the accounts which stopped all the direct debits and left her with nothing. We are still waiting for the outcome of this matter as it is now in the hands of solicitors.

As for Virgin Media well Dad didn't want to be their customer but, due to their extremely fine print, they forced him into being their customer for a further 12 months because they moved house 1 month before their original contract was up.

The 8GB broadband service he was forced to pay for was atrotious he was lucky if he got 356KBPS and yes that is KILOBYTES.

When I phoned and confirmed that the account was to be closed due to him dying it was a nil amount and yes that is fine and we're very sorry for your loss........... they are so sorry they have sent a debt of £45 to a debt collection agency which we are avidly disputing - they don't say what the debt actually is just threaten to take a dead man to court cause Yes, they do address letters to my Dad - bless him he'd have loved this fight.
