If Cardozo continues the goals to games ratio he has for Benfica this season then he'll almost definitely be playing for one of the big clubs in La Liga or maybe even the Premiership. Along with Saviola, he completely destroyed a solid Everton defence over 2 games and I'm sure most people in this country that have seen him would rate him.

Maybe as Santa Cruz doesn't chase and harry it would be a bad idea to pair them but if Cardozo is considered a squad player then Paraguay must be in good shape for next summer...

I agree about Drogba. Everyone keeps saying an African nation may well step up and challenge in the first WC to be held on African soil and Ivory Coast certainly have the potential. I do hope though that Drogba erradicates all the nonsense from his game. The play acting and writhing around like some sort of derranged child really tarnishes his overall contribution. He's a big lad and to see him constantly fling himself about the place really angers me. For someone with the brilliance he posesses, the playground theatrics are really not needed.

I also reckon the Santa Cruz-Cardozo partnership could be worth keeping an eye on

You're right about the home internationals, a couple of years ago when we narrowly lost to Italy I would've been more than happy for the Home Internationals to come back but now....

England have depth,and if Shaun Wright-Phillips is your 3rd or 4th choice right midfield option then you've got plenty to be choosing from. I envy the depth England have at their disposal, the Under 21's are more or less the best in the World and there is a wealth of decent defenders to choose from. Aside from Terry and Ferdinand, King, Jagialka, Cahill, Lescott, Upson, Woodgate, Curtis Davis, Richards, Steven Taylor, hell even Sol Campbell can all cut it at International level. That Gary Caldwell is our best centre back just shows you the enormous gulf in quality.

I have read lots of negativity regarding the England Brazil game. I don't think you can be overly critical of losing 1-0 to Brazil in a random, high temperature stadium in the far east. If Barry, SWP, Jenas or anyone else aren't up to it, you are guarenteed Capello won't be using them come the World Cup. The guy knows his stuff...
Brazil refine tactics for World Cup 11:32am on 16 Nov 2009 It might sound daft but I reckon if there is really such a shortage of left-backs, then surely good old Roberto Carlos could be considered. The guy is capable of physically doing a job for a good 60 minutes a game, why not get him involved?

Also, from what I've seen of Graffite the Wolfsburg striker, surely Dunga has to give him some sort of chane to impress before he picks his WC squad. Having said that, it's a bit like Argentina, there will no doubt be many top players whio don't go to South Africa.

Oh, and come on Ireland for Wednesday. Would love to see Platini and Blatter's plan to seed the play-offs backfire!

I would love to see Blackpool in the Premier, it would be awesome. Preston seem to nearly get promoted every season and have been doing it for as long as I can remember. Forest for me don't have the squad to seriously challenge and Bristol City will maybe just miss the play-offs.

You look at most of the Championship sides and could make a valid argument for most to get promotion but ultimately I reckon it'll be 3 from 4 that go up

It will be inteesting to see which of the Championship's Big Four get promotion. Surely 3 out of WBA, Newcastle, Boro and Cardiff will go up. It's good to see some of these teams dropping points after a start that looked like the 3 relegated teams would go straight back up. I think Strachan will be good for Boro and you can expect at least one of Willo Flood, Gary Caldwell, Mark Wilson, Paul Caddis and Darren O Dea to be wearing red come February.

Have to say how nicely Brendan Rogers' dream move to Reading has turned out also. The grass aint greener pal, good luck with the relegation battle.
Aberdeen board need to back McGhee 7:00pm on 23 Sep 2009 McGhee obviously feels he isn't getting anything out of his "senior" players if he starts an SPL game with a 16 year old in the centre of midfield. That to me tells you he's prepared to try anything as he has no other option.

If McGhee gets the sack, I really fear for Aberdeen

The SFA got involved because it would look like sour grapes if Celtic kicked up a fuss about it. The SFA will do anything to detract the media attention away from the national team's unfortunate current predicament.

And yes, it would still have had absolutely no bearing on the outcome of the tie if the penalty wasn't awarded and your all-conquering nation would still have it's four darlings in the group stages of the champion's league. I hope Arsenal go far because they have the right idea about how football should be played.

I agree totally. If a stretcher has to be brought on then a 10 minute "time out" should be incurred. That would stop a lot of injury feining.

I'd like to also credit James Beattie the other week when he got injured. He managed to leave the feild on his own accord, presumably to allow the game to flow and he was genuinely injured aswell. When you get muppets rolling around faking to be injured in order to break the game up it really tarnishes the game as a whole.

Players that just try to get on with it should be applauded and more should be done to highlight the idiocy of players who ham it up every time they are tackled.
