Not so special? 08:48am on 24 Sep 2009 I am fed up of hearing about the special relationship and all this whimpering pathetic claptrap spouted by journalists and politicians. It puts Britain in the position of being a weak incapable little nobody begging the big bloke next door to be nice to him.

Clawing back Sir Fred's pension 08:55am on 04 Mar 2009 Goodwins pension is sickening and even more so to those of whose pension fund is taking a battering due to the loss of value of stocks. Why have the institutional investors, insurance companies, pension funds etc not been held to account. We have been told the Directors are incompetant but the professionals who invest our money on our behalf clearly have a very casual approach to how their (i.e. our) investments are managed
Will China be strengthened by adversity? 2:55pm on 02 Mar 2009 That China is damaged is good news for the West, unless you prefer Chinese hegemony to American and the Chinese would be nothing like as benevolent as the Americans. China's success depends on cheap labour unfettered by health and safety or any other concerns. If the Chinese were to pay themselves reasonable wages they could get themselves out of this mess, their population is so enormous they don't really need to trade with the rest of the world and it would provide a market for the world, it doesn't at the moment apart from raw materials. We all know China is not really a communist country but that would not stop every left wing nutter shouting from the roof tops that communism really does work

Bonus buck stops with Brown 12:50pm on 06 Feb 2009 theres no reason why Brown should spend much time over this much less 'weep'. All employees benefited when those profits which have now turned into bad debts, generated bonuses, now no bonuses should be paid to anyone. Talk about having your cake and eating it. As regards losing brilliant staff, we have heard that one before -let them go but there is no where for them to go

Total and the Wimbledon effect 1:58pm on 02 Feb 2009 Robert, please make the distinction- it wasn,t the 'British' who did not care or think it unimportant who owned the companies and the assets, it was this British government encouraged by enonomists and commentators such as yourself. The British people follow their common sense which always told us that Head Office will always put the home country first and Head Office is now so often outside the UK.
The British people are treat with contempt and at long last are getting angry. In your list of industries sold out you omitted British Energy, one more example our our country's future being sold out.
