In terms of Gillingham, most older Gillingham supporters know that we are traditionally a 1st-2nd division team and that we ultimately couldn't mantain that level. The squad in the Championship included premiership players such as Jason Brown (Blackburn when he plays), Nosworthy (Sunderland), King (Wigan / Hull / jail), Sidebe (Stoke)... It looks as if Matty Jarvis might also be up there soon with Wolves. That was a decent set of players who moved on, but we never had the funds to stay up and now we are around our natural level (although I se us more of a traditional 1st division).

Most Gills fans blame Scally for not reacting to the Valley Express rather than the fact Charlton operate it... If Scally operated a similar scheme, our gates might improve.

What annoys me most about Charlton is in '95 when we went into administration and everyone were bring their friends in an attempt to boost the gates and make the club look more attractive to new buyer, small groups of Charlton fans popped down to our final home matches handing out leaflets with a general message of "Sod Gillingham, come and see Charlton at the Valley instead"... from the view of a supporter of a club where no buyer had made themselves known, the fact that fans of another club were actively doing things to damage our surivial will always leave a taste in the mouth.

The problem with blasting the ball is that you have less control over the penalty and are more likely to balloon it over the bar etc. Stuart Pearce is a good example of this. Blasting the ball is less about accuracy but hitting it so quick that the keeper doesn't have time to move.

In the modern game where passing ability is the new black, it is considered easier to 'pass' the ball into the corner. For a keeper, it is difficult to get down in time for a shot into the bottom corner unless they correctly predict which side.

In relation to Koeman, he was one of those players who were naturally capable of hitting the ball with a lot of power without needing to exert himself - thus he could blast it with a certain level of accuracy.

Oh I know Hess hasn't deliberately tried to break anyone legs, but he has gone in with a few crunching tackles down the years that could have injured people if they had landed wrong etc.... And he has been known to go in with tackles that he deliberately did to bring another down...

I've always felt with Gregan though was that if he was a Gillingham player, we'd love him and support him....

Actually, Hess could be dirty and could be as cynical as the typical Gills view of Sean Gregan - remember the rugby tackle on the Forest player on the half way line that prevented the Forest player running through on goal ? I recall a few more cynical tackles that brought down other players. Hess was a wind up merchant on par with the likes of Robbie Savage, but he was our wind up merchant so we loved him.... Hess was unpopular with some other teams as Gregan was to us....
