Low-key start to Brazilian championship 1:47pm on 11 May 2009 Hi Tim.

With regards Adriano and his loss of appetite for football, I really do feel for him as the death of his father was a contributing factor in him turning to alcohol and, thus, putting on weight. He is one of my favourite players who had (or may still has) the potential to become one of the greatest.

However, prior to this, it was well documented that he liked to party. Similarly, it was stated that Ronaldinho turned to partying at Barca, therefore, the question I have for you is as follows:

Clearly, in Europe, drinking and partying, is a big no no. If players find themselves in trouble while on a night out, the papers get hold of this and the players club's reputation is tarnished e.g. Ledley King one recent example; Jonny Evans accusation at the Man Utd Xmas party to name a couple involving UK based players. Thus, in Brazil, is training, playing, and then drinking and partying an acceptable practice? Therefore, Adriano can live the way he really wants, having joined Flamengo, without having this media spotlight on him.

Just a thought....

I read an article on Manco and it stated that he and the rest of the team received a monetory reward for qualifying to the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He used the money not for his own personal needs and wants, but to give his mother an operation she needed, and to help his father with his diabetes.

I believe that money is a major issue in that when a player is brought up in a poorer area, the need for them to be out earning is vitally important to contribute to their family.

Yes these players are brought up with the ball at their feet, which results in magnificent players being produced, but if the offer comes up to move abroad, which would bring the ability to support their family and improve their standard of living, they are bound to take this.

But at what cost? - the issues you have discussed is a concern but the social factor must be considered when looking at why certain players move abroad i.e. Manco

What are your views on this? Families who are poor and cannot afford medical care - and rely on their young 'wonderkid' to move abroad at the earliest opportunity and earn big bucks? Is this a common concern in South America?

Do not agree with 'Ged, Manchester' one bit. The fact that I wait every Monday for your blog to be posted shows how interesting it is. The best on the BBC!!

Each week you look at a different aspect of football in South America, and it does not matter if you are discussing Brazil 3 weeks running etc. - something new is learned each week.

I have a couple of questions - who do you think will be the next star in the Under 20 tournament and be subject to transfer come the summer?

It is an insult to the genuis which Maradona is for you to spell his name incorrectly.

You cannot even spell your 'precious' English manager's name correctly.

England will not win the 2010 World Cup and will only be favourites because the British media will big them up. What will the scapegoat be this time??? i.e. Beckham in 98, the penalty spot at the Euros, the HAND OF GOD etc. etc.

All of the English fans need to wake up and smell the coffee....Argentina, Brazil, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal are better teams......

1. It is stated that the IQ of the England squad is lower than a colony of baboons. After reading the shocking use of the English language by this idiot i.e. repeating 'cos', is beyond me.

2. Robbo tells Butcher to get over it as it has been 22 years, only to make reference to Maradona again in the last paragraph. The whole of England please get OVER IT! It is not as if you would have won the World Cup in Mexico.

3. England will never win the World Cup - a team of individuals and big-time charlies.

4. It disgusted me how Terry Butcher wanted to make all his TV interviews through the past week about him and England. As the 'God' states - "Who is Butcher?"

5. A baboon would have greater success taking over from Robbo on this blog.

6. I pray that Butcher is quickly on his way from the Scotland set up, along with all the English players we cap for some reason...e.g. Kris Commons
Coming to Maradona's defence 5:11pm on 03 Nov 2008 It is a real shame that the 'Hand of God' has become the talking point about that match. The second goal was amazing play and showed the real Maradona.

Watch video highlights and you will clearly see the opposition defenders attempting to take him out. However, Maradona had the skill to see these challenges coming and still managed to glide past the defenders with the ball stuck to his feet. A magician....

In my opinion, the best player ever.....
