Public servants on $20m a year 11:12am on 03 Dec 2009 Now that we have all discovered over the past couple of years, todays trading profits are tomorrows disasterous losses, i fail to see why the board or anyone is even considering paying out a bonus. What happened to taking a longer term view. It is morally repugnant to most ordinary people that the bankers should receive a penny in bonus this year.

Give us back our money. Resign already. How hard will it be to find more greedy fools.

This resolution lot are slimey parasites attempting to pocket millions in avoided corporation tax and savings made by slashing jobs and cutting service levels while doing a dodgier less regulated version of something not done so well already.

Why don't they stop spiving for just long enough for the rest of us to forget why we find them so nausiating.

We all know that he is a greedy parasite but are more worried about the 'deflation' myth being spun by the same idiots who brought us the 'new paradigm' of no more boom and bust.

A huge inflation wave is on its way. Savers holding cash have so far lost only their income but not yet seen massive erosion of their principle. Had they been watching they would have seen 'natural resources' prices rise quietly by 30% since christmas. I would add that expecting cash alone to provide a long term income and inflation protection is manifestly unrealistic.

Person on Salary £20k with no debts can comfortably afford to borrow more than £60k.

Person on £50k with £30k credit card debt to service and an ex wife + kids to support and a taste for the good life will struggle to support £150k mortgage.

Each individual should be looked at as an individual and leant to according to net income and ability to live within their means. This risk assessment would be carried out by people called bank managers. It once was considered a respectable profession in this country. The banks removed this function from their branches years ago and turned them into sales outlets run by school leavers with sales targets.

You reported it Robert. RBS, HBOS etc.

All feels like bubble economics. Your idea could never work anyway as government attempted to inflate share prices speculators would sell. In the end government would pay over the odds for shares in markets that they themselves had distorted, invevitably followed with another crash.

Just becasue they make all the fluffy toys in the world does not make China a democracy.
The Goodwin pension questions 4:48pm on 26 Feb 2009 This shows in the clearest possible light what motivations were at play at RBS and who was to blame.

Greedy Fred had control of the till and only cared about how much he could take out of it regardless of share holders, pensioners, employees who now face losing their job and the country.

I hope justice catches up with him and he gets his just deserts for placing himself first second and last in every decision. I have nothing but contempt for this power mad parasite.

As a footnote it goes to prove what they say about accountants, which Goodwin is by profession to pretending to be a banker. They know the price of everything and the value of nothing. HMM ABN Amro.. HMM Subprime investments.
Rock revival 1:25pm on 23 Feb 2009 I think it makes more sense to wait a year or 2 before buying.

It would be fairly horrid to have waited all this time to buy and have saved 10% for a deposit just to end up trapped in negative equity in a 1 bed/2 bed starter.

Best wait until prices reach a sensible level and job security is better.
Is quantitative easing really just printing money? 09:43am on 19 Feb 2009 Looks like we really are up to our necks in economic theory when printing money is all that remains to preserve our way of life.

Time to start hoarding stuff to barter.
Unfair? We may have to hope so 4:45pm on 09 Feb 2009 Lets not feel too sorry for every saver. They come in many shapes and sizes.

Lets take a typical old fearful granny with £200k in the bank. Chances are she is claiming that she needs to turn off the heating and cut back on food because her interest has vanished. Left to her own devices she would die with every penny unspent and virtually no pleasure obtained from it. It would simply be redistributed via taxes and inheritance anyway.

What about the fact she owns a house that has quadrupled in value over the last 15 years and has been the big winner in the 'hyperinflation' of house prices. It is high time she contributed some of her wealth to the young she has dispossessed of any equity in their society.

The old have grabbed way too much and now expect a diminishing number of young to pay their pensions until they are 100.
