According to their "experts" we were all going to die of bird flu a few years ago. So they thought they'd just let us have our last few years on a high. We shouldn't be here to be witnessing this! So everyone just be grateful they survived.

I agree with most of what you have posted but you keep going on about a moritorium on legal action to recover loans etc.
Sorry mate but I disagree withyou on this.
I have no loans or any debt - so why should I be punished by low interest rates and all the idiots who overstretched themselves be let off? They should have calculated the risk before signing on the dotted.

No, a different solution is needed.
The government should step in and lend these people money direct - using similiar stake gaining options as they are applying to the banks.
Forced convergence of China and US 10:01am on 12 Nov 2008 Another problem for the car manufacturers the world over (in general) is that their products are too good. Cars these days do not rust, they do not fail. I have an 8 year old Renault with 110,000 miles on the clock which still runs perfectly. So why do I need to waste 18,000GBP on a new one? It will not do anything that the old one cannot already do. So now that the credit supply has diminished people can quite easily continue to use their old vehicles and concentrate on making savings eslewhere too. Too many products are available today that we just don't need.

Why bank shares are falling 2:20pm on 08 Oct 2008 According to RP's prog on the Beeb last night - this problem was all started by low interest rates. So here's a good idea - lets lower the rate again! woohoo - lets all go bonkers on the credit cards.
Insane markets and HBOS 3:47pm on 01 Oct 2008 I thoroughly agree with making the banks liable in some way. However, Joe Public needs to remember his part in all this too. If he/she had not blindly followed fashion and taken out interest only mortgages for overpriced houses - then the problem might not have happened in the first place. The old saying is "it takes two to tango". No matter what the banks were offering, if Joe had not signed up he wouldn't have got his fingers burnt.
