A healthy squeeze (II) 3:06pm on 26 Nov 2009 More taxes, more laws, more regulations. That is all politicians do. The Welsh lot want the power to raise their own. Why? They have a bunch in Brussels doing it for them (as well as for and on top of those people in Westminster who do it)

It is clear to see that there will be no prosecutions for what happened. It is also clear that there have been no changes to prevent it all happening again. So it will happen again.

BTW It is no surprise the Establishment failed the people in the matter of punishing bank charges.

Barclays Mgt were probably taken in at the time by the AAA ratings of the 'toxic assets' as RBS themselves were.

Worthless bits of paper traded by the trainload. It has been a long time yet we still have not been able to plumb the bottom of the Abyss. Perhaps it cannot be spoken.

I wrote 'worthless' earlier. Maybe I should have put 'Liability' instead.

Agreed. It seems inevitable.

No measures have been taken to prevent a repetition. The same old flaky house of cards 'instruments' are out there. Do the investment bankers think business will take off again as before? I think they do but it is wishful thinking.

Bank reform: The radical way 11:58am on 30 Oct 2009 Not having any banking or economics training but having read this blog for quite a long time, it appears to me that CDO and CDS 'instruments' have been at the core of the problem. 'Exotic' has been a term applied which may be a euphemism for unquantifiable, too complex to be accurately valued or tracked.

How then can these things carry a rating?

Are CDO/CDS indispensible?

Then we have Derivatives which are a very recent. There were none a short time ago and now they are spoken of in Trillions. These are regulated by...erm, would someone please enlighten me?

I apologise if I appear naive to bloggers who know about these things. I cannot understand how we came to this point and I am baffled by the resistance to regulate on the things that have been the cause of the problems and on the refusal to separate investment and retail banking.
