The real debate has scarcely begun 5:02pm on 10 Nov 2009 Is it not time to restrict contributions? Two maybe three bloggers have dominated this argument reducing it to infantile proportions. Time for the Moderator to revise rules on contributions

An ability to mount a successful prosecution is the issue. Leave to call major "witnesses" will not be forthcoming. The president, king, etc. of a sovereign state called before a UK court? Never. The US effort will end in one of its infamous plea bargains for the very same reasons. So why start the process in the first place?

Cannot understand SFO. Hope BAE holds firm and makes SFO mount its case. The prospect of relevant evidence ever seeing the light of day is nil. Too many foreign interests are affected for the prosecution to get off the ground.

Stand fast BAE. Avoid the insidious plea bargain; the most dissolute form of legal process ever devised. But then it was devised by lawyers for lawyers
Who'll boss our banks? 7:37pm on 28 Jul 2009 This is a classic case of filling the lifeboat before the vortex of change. GB is angling for World bank/IMF post; Blair wants to be Lord and president of EU. the ducks are lining up in a row. Can we frustrate GB and TonyB? Self-protection is rife. A Palace of Westminster coup would be the best thing ever. Don't see a leader in sight though.

The rates of interest are extortionate but the charges are the real scandal. A relative sought to start a small business hoping to turnover £80000 this year in an essential craft. Two banks quoted £1000 as fees to open and demanded his home as guarantee even though he was proposing to avoid drawing down an overdraft (needed because his clientele might be slow to pay). He had to have a bank account in order to bank cheques from one public body client. Small wonder he is executing only cash business while negotiating emigration to a receptive Commonwealth country.
Small acorns, etc grow to mighty oaks. Apparently not in UK2009. Two more generations lost to us.
Goldman: Recession? What recession? 10:18am on 15 Jul 2009 Profits were earned on currency speculation in Fall 2008. Remember RBS made a "profit" then despite failing in every other category of business?
Those engaged in currency speculation in late October- December 2008 were odds on to succeed. Just whose money was used neeeds to be asked. If it was the state then the state should be able to claw back everything not properly belonging to the likes of Goldman, etc. Will need someone with courage to face down this "windfall". Brown isn't up to it. Is Obama?

How about a few words on the previous employment of the FSA staffers? A signifiant number had ties to Barclays. Isn't this a too cosy old-pals arrangement? It stamps of musical chairs with our money. Even though, as you say, George O would rid us of FSA.
Why banks must be allowed to die 8:06pm on 26 Jun 2009 Two things will show evidence of change. Re-enactment of Glass-Steagall legislation. Secondly the members of the House of Commons abandoning the unquestionably unfair pension and benefits scheme.
Finally agree with JoLo. Until directors put money in tangible form prior to taking office shareholders will continue to be stuffed.

Nothing about the 2008 £2 rights issue fraud. Or about the huge number of shareholders who supported RBS by buying its shares for their retirement. Will Hester's money come out of the dividend? Thought so. It wont.
Where would Hester get another job that paid this well? Name, say, a couple?
