The Uk-listed Alliance Trust has an eye-watering incentive scheme and that's just for running a boring old investment trust. Last year the now CEO got a bonus above £1M ie about the same as the CE of Shell !
Not everyone's a fan 10:59am on 15 Nov 2008 Gordon is a politician. He continuously tries to define how he is perceived. He is not an intellectual heavyweight and has no more capability at understanding or responding to this situation than Joe Average. Just another unpleasant person in a position of authority which he feels is his natural due.

What they supply remains an asset even though their bill (interest and the right to take back the goods) represents a liability. So liabilities v assets is all well and good providing we understand this nuance otherwise we will be calling cash in hand a liability.

Santander to B&B rescue 10:57pm on 28 Sep 2008 I am thinking of starting a new type of bank. It will take savers deposits and lend these out to people to let them buy houses. No shareholders, it will be owned by its savers and borrowers. Is this legal ?
B&B: end of an era 2:25pm on 28 Sep 2008 Isn't the whole thing really a 'valuation' crisis. Probably should have guessed the sytem was messed up when you need MiT maths Ph.D's to establish 'value'. So now no-one knows how to value a swap, a bank's equity or even a house. Now a potato, that I can value.
B&B: end of an era 1:58pm on 28 Sep 2008 #68 ? Why stop at Thatcher, what about coming off the gold standard or floating exchange rate ? As for the plea for social equity...well a bunch of guys in Russia tried that, ended with Stalin. Ditto China (oops hello Mao), Cuba .....I am afraid the world is one big schoolyard and everyone is in a gang to avoid the bullies. I can't be bothered listening to politicians either, nor to you as you sound just like one.
B&B: end of an era 1:53pm on 28 Sep 2008 This will put the buy-to-let market into meltdown won't it: can see a lot of amateur punters getting burnt. Incidentally, what happens to holders of PIB's ?
