Bank of England forces bank shrinkage 7:22pm on 16 Oct 2008 I do note your analogy of our economy to a supertanker, you are in my opinion correct.
In a past life I was a Chief Engineer of a supertanker.

They were useless, there is a direct likeness to our economy.

There was a problem coming to terms with these facts.

Rescue plan due in hours 7:19pm on 07 Oct 2008 I do not have a lot of confidence in it and I have not heard it yet.
The knowledge of the persons involved in it is enough.

It should have been here for UK banks a month ago, I think it is too late, I hope it is not.

Back to my plot tomorrow, potatoes will be worth more than money soon!!!

How close to capitulation? 4:29pm on 06 Oct 2008 I have been down at my vegetable plot lifting some potatoes, I think I will be needing them in a few weeks. I have got them all in pits.

The first sign of distress will be Local Authorities running out of money. I would think we will see it soon.

Brown and Darling were bad enough but with Mandy there it will be disaster.

Insane markets and HBOS 09:42am on 01 Oct 2008 I was in my local branch of HBOS yesterday to deposit a few cheques. I got some extra cash out for emergencies.

It was a bit depressed looking. I think it has mortgage book problems, or as some of our wonderful people call it overvalued assets. My wee dog thinks they are liabilities, so he tells me. He knows more about it than a banker or a politician.

I just passed a block of flats the other day. Completed and sold. Most are up for resale.
No residents therefore no insurance.

They are being vandalised, someone may consider them assets, I dont. An asset has a value, they dont, no one will buy them.

There is lots around now, they are liabilities not assets in anybody's book.

You are indeed correct they are overvalued but they are not assets

The day the bill arrived 3:19pm on 29 Sep 2008 I do wish someone would explain to your audience that any loan is only an asset if someone is repaying it. Once there is no repayment it is a liability. If the asset the loan is secured against is falling in value it is a double liability.

Sharpen your pencil Mr. Peston the day is not over yet. Another one may go soon. It is a deck of cards.

A Newmarket bookmaker can run his business better than GovUK. He can balance his book.

With Brown and Darling in charge it is no wonder we have no credit-worthiness.

City pays for Bradford & Bingley 09:34am on 29 Sep 2008 The shareholders are already wiped out and I assume the holders of subordinated
bonds etc. are in a similar position.
I do not see how these persons are going to be responsible for future debt.
The loan book value will now go into free fall as everyone sticks two fingers up to their loan provider GovUK.
You would need to be a mug to pay that lot.
You are better with Santander than GovUK.
