Deflation or inflation? 10:47am on 17 Dec 2008 There was a famous investor in the 20's - maybe Jesse Livermore? who said that he knew it was time to sell the markets when the shoe-shine boys were giving share tips.

Now we seem to have the reverse - with all and sundry predicting the end of the world as we know it. Witness Jeremy Clarkson on this site talking of "an economic end of days".

To quote Rothschild, "Buy when there's blood in the streets, even if the blood is your own."

The streets look to be getting bloodier by the day. Who's going to call the bottom - or was it FTSE at 3666 odd back in October?

A global solution needed 3:36pm on 10 Oct 2008 Surely the "Minsky Moment" could only occur if no-one came back in to buy an oversold market.

Im sure there's pots of money out there just waiting for the right moment to get back in.

Meanwhile, lets just have one national bank and let the others go to the wall. There are simply too many and it's time for some malthusian population dynamics to bite.

Consider the following - A doctor can only treat illness once it has been contracted. A dustman prevents the contraction of the illness by removing waste which harbours disease. So tell me - who is worth more?

The doctor is mate.

Because anyone can be a bin man. And it takes years of study and sacrifice to become a doctor.

Could you explain how an interest rate cut has achieved the above? I would be fascinated to know.

Now is the time for him to prove, once and for all, that he is either a statesman, capable of delivering both bad news and a solution, or just another member of the political elite hiding behind a Scottish accent and a fascade of socialism.

He just reminds me of George Bush when he heard about the 9/11 attacks. Like a rabbit in headlights.

C'mon Gordon. Do something decisive.
