Soft imperalism 06:35am on 03 Nov 2008 Justin, you seem to have lost the plot completely with this barmy posting (and the previous two I must add!). I can't help but think you have gone completely soft on, or for, McCain - perhaps you're now belatedly trying to show some degree of BBC impartiality by viewing him more favourably since the beeb has taken a bit of flack (with much of the media) for being too pro Obama? Nevermind it will all be over Tuesday night and then you can hopefully get back to reflecting on the train wreck that was the McCain-Palin campaign. Unlike your most recent posting that is surely going to be interesting!

Obama in enemy territory 1:29pm on 02 Nov 2008 Gavin you sound like you have suddenly taken the McCain position of crying foul over too much negative coverage of the appalling run McCain campaign and you are now trying to show your nuetral colours - bit late two days before the election no?
No wiggle room 11:17am on 31 Oct 2008 What is so surprising about the McCain campaign is the utter lack of consistency with his approach - one minute he's relaxed and not reading from the auto-cue and doing well and the next minute he's stiff and uncomfortable reading the same tired speech we have all heard 100 times before without any spontinaity or feeling. One day he's going negative with the most ludicrous accusations and the next he is focused and precise (like his recent - erroneous nonetheless - attack on Obama's tax plans). It just all points up what a shambolic mess he's made of running his campaign so how anyone would think he would run the most important office in the world in a more consistent 21st century manner is just beyond me. Obama has shown consistency, integrity and intelligence throughout his campaign - why there is not a greater margin between the two candidates is just beyond me! Here's hoping and praying that Tuesday offers up the change America and the rest of the world needs!

Bad losers and bad finishers 10:59pm on 29 Oct 2008 There is clearly a flight of Republicans deserting McCain for Obama - apart from Lieberman have any other influential Dems gone the other way? As far as I know the only prominent endorsement McCain has recently gained is from Sam the Unlicensed Tax Dodger - who clearly is positioning himself for a shot at becoming National Security Advisor for McCain given his recent FOX interview statements on Israel.... well it's not that far-fetched really is it - sometimes it seems like the Plumber and Palin were seperated at birth!
America's fear of big government 03:55am on 28 Oct 2008 Isn't it ironic that as McCain goes around spouting off about "big liberal government" should Obama control the house and the executive etc. the US govt. is now seriously considering bailing out the big auto makers. McCain voted for the bank bail-out package (although one would hardly know that now that socialism has become his word of the week) just as Obama did (although McCain chose to do it with all the grandstanding of suspending his campaign - for what we ask?) The hypocrisy of McCain is mind-boggling! Maybe in the remaining few days he will suspend his imploding campaign again and don overalls and join the production line at GM to show solidarity with the workers (oooh...smacks of socialism!)
Are they bluffing? 02:55am on 28 Oct 2008 Even if the attacks on Syria and Pakistan where in some way a plitically timed event I just don't see how this is going to help McCain - what is he going to do - suspend his campaign again and return to Washington so he can sit in the war room with his pal Bush and plan the invasion of Iran - as Clinton would say "give me a break...." McCain is just so out-of-step and devoid of any real game plan that his whole campaign in now imploding. Why would anyone think he can help in a foreign policy crisis or significant overseas event is just beyond me - sitting in a squalid Vietnamese prison doesn't qualify one for that - sound judgement, diplomacy, patience and good advisors do! McCain's whole campaign has become such a tortuous nightmare that I would be surprised there are any good advisors standing by him - if he had good advisors he simply would not be running the shambolic election campaign that he is.
Colin Powell's America 05:03am on 21 Oct 2008 I just want to see who is the next Republican who will stand up and say that the narrow-minded and hate-filled campaign of McCain-Palin has no place in American society or any poitical campaign. Hats off to Powell for taking a principalled stand and showing McCain what a true maverick is all about - and not the phoney, self aggrandizing McCain type. Powell is a man of honour who is willing to look at his own mistakes and learn from them - like a true military man!
Palin disaster, Powell endorsement 05:37am on 20 Oct 2008 Powell, as a military man first and foremost, has given perhaps the most important endorsement of a presidential candidate in living memory. Apart from his concise explanation of how and why the McCain-Palin ticket all went wrong for him - a total repudiation the the Republican party's overall campaign stratergy - he has pointed the nation in the direction it needs to be heading by suggesting that Obama represents the building of a new generation of leaders to deal with the problems and challenges the present lot have sadly failed to do. Coming from a highly respected statesman and a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff this has to be sound advice that any military man or woman can understand - afterall supporting and building leadership in times of crisis is perhaps one of the most important functions of any military. A changing of the guard is sorely needed and this fact has certainly not been lost on Powell - let's hope it is not lost on the American voters!
