IPL move takes shine off India 2:13pm on 26 Mar 2009 Error by English administrators (1):

They keep talking about how they invented twenty 20, but failed to realize its potential like the indians did. So they missed the 1st boat (i.e. 1st mover advantage in a PROPERLY MARKETED twenty20 tournament; ironically modi based the ipl model on the ENGLISH football premier league).

Error by English administrators (2):

Australia and SA saw that there is one market in world cricket that dwarfs all other test playing markets PUT TOGETHER. so they accepted a smaller steak in the Champions League. England were offered such a steak, but refused on the grounds that the four partners deserved 25% each... it seemed like a principled stance until...

Error by English administrators (3):

They lost all principles by selling their souls (and landing rights at Lords!) to Stanford. it was a desperate attempt to appease their players who were beginning to look East... They couldn't predict what would've happened, but it was clear to see from the outset that the $20m prize money for one match per year was NOT a sustainable model long term, even if stanford wasn't (allegedly) a crook. i.e. they were trying to buy time whilst they thought about how to thwart India / BCCI/ IPL / Champions League

Error by English administrators (4):

They suggested that they wanted 'to help india', by staging the IPL this year, but it is very obvious that their desperate courting had alot to do with a last attempt to recoup revenues that they would have taken from stanford. methinks that modi must have smiled when the very people who had apposed his ipl so vehemently came crawling back to him... and he must have laughed out loud when he rejected them in favor of SA.

re. stanford's investors - they've spoken of regret at doing business with stanford, but not once have the England a Wales Cricket Board intimated any regret over the fact that their coffers were effectively filled with stolen money.

Indian thoughts return to cricket 10:18am on 10 Dec 2008 Comment 2, by womble re. india's prospects-

"They won't have anything to celebrate".

Are you serious? They beat England in the last test series IN ENGLAND, just beat Australia at home, were prevented from thrashing England 7- 0 in the one day series by 10 terrorists, rather than 11 Englishmen. Confidence in your team is one thing, but India winning is a mere formality.
Pakistan's dept for reconciling the irreconcilable 10:12pm on 09 Dec 2008 the isi is also alleged as having acted in concert with AQ khan in the international nuclear weapons market (on previous pakistani govt say so). it set up camps, organizations, funding networks and infrastructure that led to terrorism in india, the usa, uk, afghanistan and pakistan itself- so why does it help terrorists on one hand and act against them on the other? 2 reasons- 1. it is out of control and different decision makers implement actions at will. 2. overall helping terrorists serves their ideological and long term strategic objectives whilst they can't continue to function without $$$$, which the usa provide. balancing act indeed! it is a diseased organization that needs to be broken up

Map of the Week: Racism and tension 09:47am on 25 Nov 2008 This article uses the rather dated terminology of 'Asian'. In doing so, it ignores the fact that the majority of the 'Asians' in the Northern mill towns where BNP activity is higher can further be differentiated as 'Pakistani' (see Census, 2001), as apposed to Indian, Sri Lankan. It is only on consideration of this fact that one can explore the real reasons for the rise of the BNP in these areas, as apposed to, for example, areas like Ealing, Harrow or Hounslow, which have high Indian populations, rather than Pakistani, but haven't seen a surge in BNP activity- Is is because of religious discrimination against muslims post 9-11 leading to BNP activity in these areas? Or is it because those Mill Towns are relatively deprived. Or have the ethnic groups themselves got something to do with it- Have some groups been more successful in integrating into British society? Is the fact that Indians are more likely to own the home that they live in a factor? (See Govt stats) Is the relative success of Indians vs Pakistanis in education (see Govt stats) a factor in integration? Additionally, this article focuses on 'an Asian boss'. Indians are the immigrant community in the last 50 yrs that have been responsible for creating the most number of jobs per immigrant. Is contribution to society a factor that makes people more likely to be accepted? This isn't a criticism of 'Asian communities' other than my own, Indian. It is an acknowledgment of difference. only when we accept that there are massive differences amongst different 'Asian' groups can problems, such as the rise of the BNP in some areas be investigated accurately- And I am not just having a rant- this is based on my own research- see "Racial Terminologies and The Criminal Process- Breaking the Mold to Ensure Accurate Ethnic Monitoring' in the Journal of Criminal Law 2002, by myself, Kamal Sharma
